25% of Florida Keys houses destroyed as 15 million Floridians have no power

(CNN) — As some Florida Keys residents return to their devastated islands Tuesday, 15 million Floridians are learning when they'll finally get power back.

What they found was devastating: Based on initial estimates, 25% of the houses on the chain of islands have been destroyed, the Federal Emergency Management Agency said Tuesday. Another 65% suffered major damage.

"Basically, every house in the Keys was impacted some way," FEMA Administrator Brock Long said.

It's still not clear how many casualties Irma caused on the Keys. Transportation officials are trying to determine whether bridges between the islands can withstand any weight.

It was too hot to stay inside the house. I ended up napping on my porch.

New telephones poles replaced.

Lived thru two weeks of no power after Hurricane Ike.

It gets better.

Watch the signal lights treat them as 4 way stops.


Enjoy looking at the stars.

The night sky will be beautiful.

Enjoy the quiet and peace.

Get to know your neighbors.

Have a bbq party and cook your meat before it spoils.

This do shall pass but it will seem forever.

If you have a gas stove you still use the stove top.

You need a match.
