Has legalization of marijuana been seriously discussed in the UK? Reason I ask is because

on Masterpiece Theater "Inspector Lewis" Sun. night, the cops busted somebody growing a lot of it.

They don't have a so-called "war on drugs" there, do they?

The top political issue over here at the moment is the Olympics and inparticular the spectacular failure of security contractor G4S in relation to this event.

Other big issues include reforming the House of Lords, public spending cuts, endless tinkering with education and the current governments attempts to destroy the NHS.

There's been a bit of a fight, in the last few years, about whether politicians listen to their scientific advisers, or just do what they think is the politically safe thing to do.

It was moved from Class B to Class C (which means that small amounts would just be confiscated) under the Labour Home Secretary David Blunkett (a bit of a surprise, since he was fairly authoritarian on most things, but he seemed to be listening to professional advice that the higher classification made things worse). But a few years later, Labour went back on this, against the advice of their scientific advisers - the leader of the board, Prof. Nutt, publicly criticised this, and was sacked.
