President Trump clearly has no clue whats happening on health care, taxes or really any other major policy front. He has also made abundantly clear that he has no interest in getting up to speed.
Unfortunately, Trumps unseriousness has become so grotesque, so all-consuming, that it has distracted us from dozens of other dilettantes and demagogues in Washington far too many of them other members of Trumps own political party.
Trump may be a toddler, we keep telling ourselves, but at least some (comparative) grown-ups on Capitol Hill are thinking things through. Maybe we dont agree with them all the time; maybe they have a different vision for the role of government than many of us do. Still, at least a few thoughtful, moderate, principled, solutions-oriented people in the legislature are working to offset the White Houses abdication of policy leadership.
The flaming turd that is Cassidy-Graham should disabuse us all of that notion.
Whats been threatening the health-care coverage of tens of millions of Americans isnt Trump. Its the entire Republican Party.

(58,698 posts)I think the OP is referring to the (mostly women) Repubs who are more moderate and responsive to their constituents. Collins and Murkowski come to mind. They have been on the right (correct) side of the healthcare votes so far, but it is certainly a good idea to distrust them. They are still Repubs and will vote with their party on most issues.
There are a couple left, even though the Repubs have been culling their ranks of the non-extremists for decades.

(16,104 posts)Even the most craven, cynical, skeptical and hypocritical of all politicians have to TRY to fulfill campaign promises.
Even as they keep their Republican private-sector health care plan in place.
Isn't it like Rand Paul said? They are repealing Obamacare and replacing it with the 90% of the Affordable Care Act!

(24,436 posts)I mean, nearly the entire Republican caucus in the Senate has been willing to uncritically ram their awful and mean-spirited ACA repeal through the Senate avoiding regular order and only a pitifully small number of Republicans have been preventing it from actually happening.
