Trump supporters are standing behind their President. That is indeed how they see him. He is "their" President. He is not the President of all America. If you are not with him, you are the enemy. It doesn't matter if he threatens to shoot them on 5th Avenue or calls them a son of a bitch or grabs them by the pussy, they are with him.
The last time America was divided to this extent was probably during the Vietnam War? There is no middle ground. Even in the midst of disasters, the people are divided into different sides. The President of the United States is the primary cheerleader and divider. He has no empathy or sense of awareness about anything except himself.
There is no room for unity. We have effectively and successfully been divided into camps. Which side are you on?

(73,559 posts)of a sociological understanding of the downfall of nation-states, such divisions are always found. Each group divides into sub-groups, with shallow alliances to other sub-groups. It takes relatively little pressure to divide these shallow alliances. The more aggressive sub-groups begin to resort to the force of violence, in the name of "self-defense." Society crumbles, and a dictator takes over.
This cycle can be remedied, and thus prevented. However, there is little evidence that the larger groups (and especially the sub-groups) are consciously aware of the path they are now following; hence, the likelihood of positive change is remarkably low.

(73,559 posts)my sons and I discussed this issue for hours. When viewed from "outside the frame," the picture isn't presently encouraging. We are witnessing the phase where various sub-groups dehumanize opposing groups. This is always a negative, in terms of the potential to mends the society's wounds. What is interesting is that every sub-group can see this feature in their opposition ("enemies" ), but either does not recognize it within their own sub-group, or feels fully justified in their stance.
