They cannot, or choose not to, understand another person's suffering unless it personally happens to them.

Even at that it only extends so far

1. They'll Die For Their Beliefs

Even a near death experience for Scalise, won't sway his devotion to his guns and the NRA.

If anything, it gives him more resolve.

2. He is a true sociopath.

He knows that what he says and does is wrong but does it anyway to benefit himself. They (the GOP) really do have severe mental issues.
