Las Vegas gunman planned to escape after massacre, sheriff says

This goes along with my theory - he did this to show/prove how "smart" he was. He claims to have figured out gambling (not at the table) algorithms. He wanted to out do everyone else and possibly get away with it.

The gunman in the Las Vegas massacre planned to escape after targeting the country music concert, but instead left behind a note and killed himself, authorities say.

Paddock may have had some help planning the attack at the country music festival Sunday night, Lombardo said Wednesday night.

He intended to escape after the attack, but he instead turned the gun on himself as authorities closed in on his room on the 32nd-floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

"He was doing everything possible to see how he could escape at this point," Lombardo said.

He fucking shot out the windows of his hotel room and sat there blasting away for 45 minutes, at least. How on Earth could he think he was getting away?

This whole episode us just bizarre. Nothing adds up.

ON edit: It was 10 minutes. My apologies. I still don't buy it.

He was firing for less than 15 minutes. That is about the time he shot the security guard and was confronted by the police. The police waited for SWAT to make a tactical entry one hour later. The police may have gone in earlier if he was still firing. Radio said they were told to stand down and wait. I think that was a wise decision.

"Everything possible" such as?

He would have had to run from the room, leaving everything there and gotten in his car and drove off.

They really need to do an autopsy to see if he was terminally ill. Was this suicide? Suicide by cop?

From what I've heard he didn't cover his tracks any.

You don't check into a room using names known...
You don't walk around a building with 100's of cameras...
You don't start shooting from your room...
You don't leave behind a ton of equipment...

and expect to escape.

Like all those before him, he knew the end of the line was near.

Maybe he thought in the chaos he could get through the crowd, get on a plane, and meet his girlfriend overseas. Yes I know he left a trail but he could have simply wanted to out do everyone else and his name would become a (sad) part of history. Terminal illness may also play into this.

$100k is really enough (depending on where you go) but he may have had a plan to get to his other money or he figured he was so smart he could start with that and amass new wealth - on line gambling.

I have been friends with compulsive gamblers and they often take risks that others would consider to be unrealistic or crazy. It wouldn't surprise me if this guy, in his arrogance, thought he could get away somehow even if the plan was foolhardy.

He's trying to wrap his logical mind around the illogical actions of a crazy person!

He needs to rest and get it together before he makes anymore statements that sound like desperation!
