Las Vegas and Hotel Security Cameras

Notwithstanding the motto that "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas", I would be somewhat surprised if the major hotel-casinos, like the Mandalay Bay, didn't have an extensive network of security cameras, including cameras on each floor that would show anyone entering or exiting any of the rooms on that floor.

If I'm right, then there should be security footage indicating how Paddock got his arsenal to the room -- did he make multiple trips himself or, as the sheriff seemed to imply, did he have assistance? There also should be footage that would show him installing a camera in the hall (if that is in fact what he did).

I'm not saying the hotel should have known something was up if he made multiple trips to retrieve bags that contained weapons and ammunition, but installing a camera should have alerted someone to check on what he was up to.

Mandalay bay had in excess of 200 security officers armed and unarmed. I have seen smaller hotels with cameras in every conceivable vantage point.

carried in in a few trips. The ammo might have weighed a bit -- 1000 rounds at roughly 30 pounds. Stick all of that on a cart and no one would know.

These guns are made to hide. In fact, take a look at this crap:

She pointed out that people can go to gun shows in LV and your hotel concierge will deliver your weapons purchases to your room for you.

I suppose that's when the gun show is being held at your hotel. But her main point was how Nevada gun laws are so loose that these services are available at the hotels.

for many of the largest strip resorts. They all have vast surveillance networks covering virtually every common area of the property.

Camera's usually on every floor monitoring the Halls as well as in the elevators. Lombardo mentioned that they had secured video evidence in his Presser last night. And the FBI specialist were looking at this evidence.

6. Have you ever been to a hotel in Vegas?

You see people with huge amounts of luggage all the time.

Musicians with lots of cases for instruments.

Golfers with big cases for flying with clubs.

People who are working trade shows with huge collections of big cases that have their displays and samples inside.

You could put that stuff on a baggage cart and roll it in with nobody batting an eye or noticing other than the hotel staff maybe offering to help.

I would hope someone has a full time job of monitoring in real time.

If they saw him put his own cameras in the hallway, that should have alerted someone to check immediately.

The hotel is going to have some explaining to do.

Having a ton of luggage is not that strange in Vegas or anywhere. People travel to Vegas for conventions and bring all kinds of stuff with them. He probably had the Bell Hop unload his car and bring his bags up with him.

I've traveled for work where I had to bring several bags for work with me, it's not something unusual. And he was a high roller who the Casino comped rooms to. Heck, I even brought large containers with me to a room before that contained displays for the convention I was at. 3x5X4 metal cases with signs and such inside.

13. Vegas casinos are probably the most surveilled places on earth.

But that surveillance is mostly focused on catching cheaters and thefts on the casino floor. Outside of the casino area, likely not any more security cameras than any other hotel.
