That 6-or-7 year run - longest ever run of consecutive positive payroll growth - LOOKS TO BE OVER.

That six-or-seven year run — the longest ever run of consecutive positive payroll growth — looks to be over.

The U.S. economy lost 33,000 jobs in September even as the unemployment rate fell to 4.2 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday.

It was the first time since September 2010 that the closely watched number was negative.

Even with the surprise jobs number, the closely watched hourly wages figure jumped higher, to an annualized rate of 2.9 percent.

Economists surveyed by Reuters expected payroll growth of 90,000 in September, compared to the initially reported 156,000 in August. The unemployment rate was expected to hold steady at 4.4 percent.

Hurricane effects were in the estimates of 75-90K supposed to be added. We missed the hurricane adjusted estimates my over 100K jobs. Hopefully it's just a blip, but the GOP's policies are proven job killers so this will happen sooner or later.

From "estimated".

Thee guys most often use an autoregressive moving average (ARMA) model to estimate these trends. They are notoriously bad at estimating instantaneous effects. I guarantee you a large chunk of the decline, if not the bulk of it, will ultimately be assigned to the hurricane after the model variances becomes clear.

sounds like the liberal deep state trying to undermine the people's elected president because they hate America.

They claimed all of Obama's positive jobs reports were fake until Trump took office then they magically became real.

This is a result of the hurricanes. It is a one month aberration and has nothing to do with Trump or the economy.

Other sites love to come to DU and pick up posts like these to show us all in a bad light. We don’t need to help them.

"The lousy returns from the September jobs report will make little impression on observers, who essentially gave the labor market a free pass due to the impact of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma," said Curt Long, chief economist at the National Association of Federally Insured Credit Unions.
