There's a reason why Lying is considered a sin in all religions and ethical arguments.

Whether you lie to others or lie to yourself, you're altering the reality around you. If you're supposed to "be faithful", by lying you're breaking faith with your creator so you can take his or her place. Your God does not need lies to protect it and doesn't need to lie to trap people into following "moral laws".
