Very lazy ending from a creative standpoint. I think David Chase was burnt out by then. The ending, which got some plaudits back then, is now generally viewed as a catastrophe. I'm not sure I'd go that far but it was, again, extremely lazy.

Which is why I say it's lazy. Very lazy, as a matter of fact. As for what happened? I have no idea. Maybe he got heartburn from the food, and went home to go to bed.

It seems like the intention was to show Tony’s murder from his perspective. There are YouTube videos which explain the ending fully, as I had no idea what happened as well.

His latest and perhaps final answer is that it's up the viewer. As I said, I think the dude was just completely burnt out.

I read an interpretation of it that said it doesn't matter whether he was killed or Meadow was killed, that it was how Tony Soprano had to live every day listening for footsteps and looking for people on the shadows.

I think 'we' the viewers got whacked. The look on his face at the end . . .

We knew EVERYTHING.

So he rubbed us out.

I was totally lost for most of the movie. It was visually interesting and unique but I couldn't quite figure out what was going on. Same with Interstellar.

Roseanne: The last couple of seasons sucked and the show should have been put out of it's misery long before. The ending with a dead Dan and "dreaming" Rosanne was just stupid.

Two and Half Men: Another show that should have been killed years earlier. Fake Charlie and Chuck Lorre both getting piano's dropped on them.

I really hated the ending for Six Feet Under.

Like a lot of shows mentioned here I think it really lost it's way over the last couple of seasons. I no longer thought of it as interesting, I found it turning into a melodramatic soap opera. I started to really hate the characters, especially Peter Krause and Lauren Ambrose. We once had a viewing party and held a drinking game where you take a drink when one of the characters whines. I was hammered by the end.

The ending was really unique but damned if it wasn't just designed to "bring a tear to the eye" and become a "powerful piece of TV". I hated it, my wife thought it was great. We agreed to disagree, just like we did with that horrible film "Good Will Hunting".

Too me it was just lazy writing. Write yourself into a corner? Bring someone back from the dead. Write into another corner? Move the island. Another? Time travel.

I'm surprised the little boy didn't fall out of bed and wake up from his dream. (It worked on Newhart)

but nothing ever was tied up.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they never expected/intended the show to last more than a couple of seasons and the more people and plot lines they added, the crazier things got.

Rented this back in the day and was so disjointed and scattered that almost any ending would have been fine. Then it ended and was I'm still WTFing to this day. It was so off the way the movie became an family in joke. "How was it? Funeral bad... Nevermind." A funny aside, when I returned it to the rental joint the old cat behind the counter looked at me, looked at the tape

old rental guy: "you rented this???"
me: "ugh, yea"
old rental guy: "I'm sorry, this should have been taken off the shelf."

We talked about how bad the movie was for a bit. As we finished up he took the tape out of the rental case and dropped that sucker in the trash bin behind the counter and offered me a free rental as a consolation prize.
