Democrats Begin Shunning Harvey Weinstein Campaign Donations

Democrats have begun distancing themselves from Harvey Weinstein, beginning with the reelection campaign of Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.)’s announcement that he would donate a $2,700 campaign contribution from Harvey Weinstein to charity. The move signals that the allegations of sexual harassment against the politically well-connected mogul are becoming a liability.

Other senators have followed suit, including Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who announced that they too would be donating Weinstein’s contributions to charitable nonprofit groups.

If repubs had to "shun" all disguting people who donated to them, they would have Eliot Rosewater Oct 2017 #2

Outside of the women that spoke amongst themselves.

Most people don't pay attention to this stuff. They go to the movies or turn on their streaming thing and don't pay attention to what happened in the background.

If this gets someone like Elizabeth Warren to get rid of his sorry ass - then the more power to her.

Let's not take shots at our Democratic elected officials who when the truth came to light - did the right thing. If it were McConnell - there's no way his greedy ass would turn down a penny.

Until yesterday, he was an old white dude who made/makes movies. He wasn't that a big factor to lots of people.

I think maybe Oberliner is a pop culture type buff so he/she is more in the know on this than folks who don't have time to pay attention.

his relevance was the silver shield on a movie start up screen.
And the idea of a wealthy powerful man sexually harassing women is .... so atypical.

Always good to get it out in the open and not allow powerful people to continue to get away with such behavior.

Elizabeth Warren is going on vacay with him and hanging at his house every weekend!

Then again - I DO think Entertainment Equals People Without Souls who Always Get Away With It

Like - go way back.

Clark Gable was rapey and so is Kirk Douglas (Natalie Wood) . . . when KD dies this place is going to be 'he was such a champion of civil rights'. Zero consideration about how that brutal rape impacted Wood's life.

Anyway - rich, powerful, white male - he'll probably be asked to 'step down', but remain fully engaged in the background, and won't lose a thing over this. It's just the way the world works.

Maybe they will back Ashley Judd as he tries to destroy her as she has leveled claims at him, but he swears he didn't do nothin'.

The mea culpa he just released was disgusting as he tried to sound so sorry for being a bad boy. Maybe this country needs to demand real men, not boys.
