General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsPsychologists surveyed hundreds of alt-right supporters. The results are unsettling.
But its the degree to which the alt-righters differed from the comparison sample thats most striking especially when it came to measures of dehumanization, support for collective white action, and admitting to harassing others online. That surprised even Forscher, the lead author and a professor at the University of Arkansas, who typically doesnt find such large group difference in his work.
There was a time when psychologists feared that social desirability bias people unwilling to admit theyre prejudiced, for fear of being shamed would prevent people from answering such questions about prejudice truthfully. But this survey shows people will readily admit to believing all sorts of vile things. And researchers dont need to use implicit or subliminal measures to suss it all out.
The alt-right scores high on dehumanization measures . . .

(9,247 posts)Alt-right/GOP don't consider those different from them human - scored the same on 'dehumanization measures' as ISIS according to the article. I've said Republicans don't consider women human, for instance, because they DON'T. Women are judged to be only 83.1% human by GOP/alt-right.
Heres how the GOP/alt-right rated the following on how evolved (human) they are. Feminists, muslims, and Hillary Clinton fall to the bottom.
Republicans believe they (and anyone white and male) are superior to everyone else. It's flat-out racism and sexism. And, like ISIS/ISIL or any other TERRORIST groups, GOP believes in torturing and/or killing those different than them (scored high on 'dehumanization measures' as ISIS/ISIL):

The GOP/alt-right also believe women should never hold positions of power or be allowed to vote: http://www.newsweek.com/alt-right-leader-richard-spencer-isnt-sure-if-women-should-be-allowed-vote-685048?amp=1
The GOP/alt-right portray all women as boundlessly "vindictive" - nevermind we have probably the most vindictive person on the planet in the Oval just now and he's MALE -- AND that virtually every war on Earth was started by a MALE -- AND that 90+% of most sexual assaults and rapes are committed by MEN (even when males are the victims).
The WORST case of PMS/menopause E V E R could never compete with the LUNACY, vengefulness and vindictiveness of DONALD TRUMP -- Yet the GOP/alt-right will still insist women are THE problem and that Harvey Weinstein's behavior is all HILLARY'S fault.
Same way that when a woman is raped in some countries with extreme Muslim beliefs, SHE is stoned to death for being 'impure' and 'dishonoring the family' while the rapist goes free.
Oh but GOP/alt-right allegedly dislikes "sharia law" (even though they clearly practice their own version of it here).
I think we can now safely call the alt-right / GOP a HATE GROUP or a TERRORIST group and be done with it.

(51,608 posts)We cannot be complacent. Sinclair Lewis wrote a book about this titled "It Can't Happen Here"...detailing how it could happen here.
Nazi types have been biding their time since the 30s, they just needed a sympathetic President with similar views. Nazi types are like cockroaches, virtually impossible to eradicate totally.
Fox News and their ilk have brainwashed brainwashable folks to believe any hardships in their lives are the fault of the "other", not the fault of the real culprits, the Oligarchs, the military industrial complex and the war machine.
I never gave this much thought but I'm comforted I live a half day drive to Ontario.....just in case.

(19,201 posts)These people may be white, but they're mostly the dregs of white society. It's not like they're the cream of the crop or anything.
I guess they feel they must dehumanize others to feel better about themselves. They also see educated whites as the "elite", who mustn't be trusted at all. The supposed 'white elites' are out to get them, but educated alt-right whites are to be trusted. The 'elite' Republicans - including people like Trump - are people they can get behind and support blindly, like cult leaders.
Weird lot. Some are pretty scary because of the lengths they're willing to go in an attempt to prove their 'superiority', which actually only proves their inferiority.
Fuck 'em.

(20,692 posts)I knew they were threatened, but I didn't know the programming was that severe. We've had the vote for almost 100 years, but their pathology requires severe sublimation of their wives and mothers. Sometimes I feel like white trash just never grew up, and are arrested at the rebellion stage, perpetually.
There is NOTHING Dems can do to win back these voters. They're irredeemable, and must be marginalized. The old moral majority will never disappear: they must be ignored.
