(748 posts). . . that the word has lost its meaning.
Steve Bannon is, by all accounts, a truly repulsive person who is pursuing a perverse ideological agenda to remake the United States into something that is a stark departure from the country's historical social, political, and constitutional values. He should be vigorously opposed. But labeling such a person a "traitor" drains the word of its meaning, in my view.

(63,221 posts)He has stated as such. A traitor is one who commits treason. Treason is defined as:
1. the offense of acting to overthrow one's government or to harm or kill its sovereign.
2. a violation of allegiance to one's sovereign or to one's state.
3. the betrayal of a trust or confidence; breach of faith; treachery.
I don't really think calling him a traitor is much of a stretch.

(9,118 posts)The Religious Right is likely to learn that associating themselves with Trump's attack on the ACA was a disastrous strategic error. One of the reasons Hillary lost was because insurance industry executives saved up four years of higher costs and sprung them on consumers in October 3016. I know because my monthly premium shot up $400 a month, and I'm in fairly good health.
The Rethuglies have the White House and both houses of Congress this time. There's no Obama to hide behind, no Hillary. Nobody but the Right's most credulous and addled core is going to be stupid enough to blame liberals and Democrats.

For the first time in my life I'm able to comprehend what must've been going on in Germany in early 30's as they slow walked to radicalism.

At least the Germans had reasons beyond "pissing off liberals" to latch on to populism
