Neo-Nazis + Purple state + progressive blue college town surrounded by rural red area

In August, it was Charlottesville, Virginia.

This week, it's Gainesville, Florida. Richard Spencer is coming Thursday.

The entire town is on edge. I just hope it's not a repeat.

Boycott. Ignore the fuckers.

Similar to, "What if they gave a war and nobody came?"

That was my first feeling too, when they planned the white supremacist rally for here in Charlottesville. I wish that would work. If absolutely every one ignored them, it might. They have followers and websites. The media won't ignore them. Some people are unwilling to let them go unopposed. They are not going to be ignored.

The resistance that the white supremacists faced in Charlottesville has apparently frightened them. They came back to town in secrecy on October 7th, lit their torches, walked from their bus hurriedly to the park, stood in the park for ten minutes, then rushed back to get in their bus and left town quickly. A small impact on the city and not much press/media. They looked foolish.

and waiting for the fallout to die down. They don't want to be seen as doing a Charlottesville type of rally every month. Plus it gives leftists who oppose them a false sense of victory. Trust me, it'll happen again and I fear we're on a trend that will get worse as time goes on because they are emboldened and they've gotten into the habit of provoking altercations. This is why it bothers me that so many on the Left don't see the threat they pose and how dangerous it is to POC. I still see people on the Left pretending they're just going to go away and that they're not that serious. They're NOT going away and when you factor in voter suppression...they can get more people like them in office to do even MORE damage.

This is actually happening folks. There IS a neo-Nazi resurgence in America. They may not be a majority, but they're sizeable enough to do a lot of damage and the dangerous part is MOST of their ardent supporters would never show up to a rally because they'd be too afraid of being caught on camera and losing their job or being exposed. These are your people sitting on city councils, on the Board of Education, in the police department, some of them are your co-workers too...or your next door neighbor. These are people who get put on juries, etc. They may smile at you as you pass them by, but you don't know they have a Nazi flag hanging on their bedroom wall...or a copy of Mein Kampf next to their bed. This fools a lot of people because it's more clandestine and when called out they can just play stupid.

It's more serious than I think some on the Left want to admit. Too many people on the Left have bought into the notion of post-racialism and some see talking too much about race as "identity politics." That's akin to just putting your head in the sand instead of aknowledging the elephant in the room. The fact that this neo-Nazi resurgence is being funded by billionaires like the Mercer family is even more problematic.

I believe they should be opposed at every opportunity. In courts, in the media, and on the streets.
