(23,322 posts)that Pete Souza has PBO's back on this in an official capacity. Dotard's lies on this subject are stunning and shocking. I didn't think he could shock me any more.

(26,268 posts)I'm just so beyond furious, at this point, that I'm close to hyperventilating.

(82,849 posts)Any other politician with such a poor record and relationship to the military would have been roasted in the media. But Trump can bad-mouth POWs, KIAs, disabled veterans, and military commitment and readiness, and not one word gets printed or aired in the media about it.

(63,221 posts)This is exactly why he does it. They will believe anything he says. He could say that all Democrats are really Crab People and they would fall for it hook, line and sinker.

(36,865 posts)I seriously think that his mental illness will not allow him to see any other reality but the one of his making.
And he gets away with it time and time again. That compounds the problem.

(26,268 posts)IMHO, and from my personal experience, I'm not sure it's a psychological illness - I'm almost positive it's physiological, like dementia.
My Mom used to come out with some incredibly 'WTF' kind of statements, as she headed down the Alzheimer's/Dementia road. In fact, that was one of the first red flags that something was going wrong.

(33,345 posts)he was taught to lie by his father and Roy Cohn. its a technique he's fully internalized: just lie and dare someone to do anything about it. your money and your lawyers will protect you.
are you just now paying attention to this?

(26,268 posts)Before that, I had little knowledge about his psychotic make up, other than that he was a wealthy big mouth who was tabloid fodder and had a big problem with fidelity. I never watched his show, I don't live in New York, and truth be told, until he started running for office, he seemed like more of a cartoon character, to me.
I have read about the Roy Cohn connection. I never dug into his business career, and I didn't dig further because I NEVER in a billion years expected we would end up in this precarious situation.
THUS, I really didn't know if he always lied with such reckless abandon. Seriously, it was just an innocent question!!

(36,865 posts)I would have looked up the links, but he exhausts me. He has a history of lying, but I would not rule out emerging/existing dementia given several episodes of... (moments of total blankness/unawareness of his environs and responsibilities). He has always been inappropriate, so I don't know how to gauge that!

(26,268 posts)I went through that with my Mom, and my brother and I both notice similar behaviors and affectations. The wandering off, the temper flares, the "sundowning" type behavior is all too familiar.
I'll tell you this - I'm exhausted, too. Sometimes I think if I didn't have groups like this to connect with, I'd go nuts.
Back at you!!!

So, why worry about the truth?

(45,453 posts)it has long been proven that when incorrect information is delivered, and then followed with a correction later, a significant portion of people only remember the original incorrect info. Especially as it gets repeated in the echo chambers of RW hate radio, Fox Noise, and social media memes.
There is a portion of idiots who believe Republicans are patriotic and support our troops while the Democrats are a bunch of America-hating traitors. They accept whatever confirms that bias and reject whatever proves otherwise.

(22,670 posts)As we witnessed last week while he was stroking Dittohead at the national guard base, while Retreat ceremonies were happening.
Did he rise, solute, stop talking? Nope, he disrespected our military. What did you expect?

(260 posts)It's appalling, he's the freaking Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces and he disrespects a tradition that predates the country's founding? Sounds entirely in character, especially the part about "What a nice sound that is. Are they playing that for you or for me?". Now according to Snopes (http://www.snopes.com/trump-retreat/) he didn't actually violate protocol, but if he didn't know what it was, and he could even joke that it was for Hannity or him, then he has no memory of the military school that he attended. Sounds about right...

(7,530 posts)Side note with all due respect - are the Obamas giant people in this picture? I didn't even notice the wife hugging MO until I enlarged the photo because the silhouettes converge.
I looked it up. Yes, they are. The Obamas are 6'1 and 5'11. I guess they are proportionate to each other in photos and I'd never seen them both together comparatively with shorter people. It never clicked until now for me Michelle was that tall.
They are both giants in stature to me in every respect, especially non physically.
