The pilot removed her. If what is written is true and it sure looks like it, he needs to be disciplined or fired.
He asked me, 'Would I behave? Could I control myself?' Mallory recounted. I had not raised my voice. I was not screaming at the [gate agent]. I just firmly let her know that I didnt appreciate the way I was treated.
But after taking her seat, she was called up to the front of the plane over the loudspeaker, where Mallory said the pilot pointed at her and said, Her, off.

(73,631 posts)Farrakhan could never be a racist... What he does is respond to white supremacy.
It's not as if he has the power to relegate all whites to an inferior status.

(720 posts)But please explain the details.
MrScorpio
(73,631 posts)Because of how racial group dynamics exists in this country.
There's no way that any sane person could claim that belonging to the black minority has the same power and hierarchy as that of the white majority.
If you want details. Here's some links:

(720 posts)Had the same power as a white majority, but was more focused on the incredible claim that blacks as a group cant be racist. There are lots of ethnic groups in the US - which of those do you think can be racist?
MrScorpio
(73,631 posts)In this country, it exists ONLY as white supremacy. It always has.
Name one time when black people have ever had the power of racial superiority over whites in this country.
If you can, then that's the only way that you can claim that black people can be racist.
ClarendonDem
(720 posts)That only whites can be racist? If a black person assaults a white/Asian/hispanic person because of the victims race, is that a hate crime?
MrScorpio
(73,631 posts)Hate crimes and racism aren't the same thing.
Racism in this country was created by whites, for whites and in behalf of whites and used against non-whites in order to maintain white supremacy. There is no corresponding incidence of black "superiority" over the white majority in this country. That's the history and current state of affairs in this country.
It's not like anyone can deny that.
Hate crime is a crime motivated by racial, sexual, or other prejudice, typically one involving violence. It doesn't matter the color the person committing the hate crime.
And simply because a black person targets a non-black person because of their race, it may be a bigoted attack, but it doesn't fit the definition of "racism." It's lacks the power of racial hierarchy supporting that attack.

(32,886 posts)You can still be racially bigoted and be the race that is not in power.

(19,262 posts)They are similar, but to be considered racist, you must be in some position of power over the races you feel are lesser than your own.
Hence, a Native American who hates white people is a bigot, not a racist. Flip that, and due to the institutional power white people wield in the US, a white man who hates Native Americans is a racist, not a bigot.

And we know her story is true because she was removed from the plane after she boarded by the pilot. The Airline certainly did not defend him when I called. He should be fired. (73,631 posts)You can't turn around standards of white racial supremacy with black people in this country and make "black supremacists" out of them. Not everyone lives in white reality in this country.
It's doesn't have the same effect with a black minority against a white majority.
Seriously, what harm can Farrakhan cause against whites in this country and he's calling out white supremacy?
If you only understand how racial power dynamics work from a white perspective, you're not going to understand why black people cannot be racist.

They probably flagged her as "questionable" to the airlines.
Thus the series of questions from the gate agent and pilot.
Sailor65x1
(554 posts)But it just doesn't work that way. Even if TSA has a tag on her, their direct involvement happens back at the cattle chutes, and anything serious they would care about means you don't go to the gate. The gate agent's computer does not display any of that type of information, and there are specific reasons for that. So the gate agent, and the pilot, would not have had that Intel going into this thing.

liberalhistorian
(20,819 posts)being an asshole about it. The problem is, no matter what happens to me while at an airport and while flying, I am really hesitant nowadays to say anything at all. I simply don't trust TSA or airport/airline personnel not to abuse the incredible powers they have at their discretion, no matter how much I may be in the right. You have what could be considered the "wrong" look on your face and you could get flagged or in trouble. So I just grit my teeth all through the whole process and the whole thing. It's why I usually try to drive instead of fly, but sometimes I have to fly.
Just this past weekend I had to fly to an old friend's wedding, and the flight left at 5:30 a.m., which means I was going through the security rigmarole at 4 a.m., and it was already very crowded. My purse was flagged while going through x-ray, so they pulled it out for further scrutiny. No problem, I thought, there's nothing at all in there that could be a problem, so it won't take long. WRONG. The TSA person looked all through it, throwing everything out on the counter and then going through those in more detail. She then threw everything back in the purse and put it through again, and it beeped again. She then repeated the search and put it through again, and it beeped again. By this time, there was a real back-up and people were getting frustrated as were her fellow agents. She asked me if I had any batteries in there. I forced myself to be calm while saying that she could already see that I had several packages of my hearing aid batteries in the purse, since she'd tossed them out on the counter three times now. She then said you'll have to throw those away. Say what? Those fuckers are EXPENSIVE and I have to have them in order to function, since my hearing aids obviously don't work without the damned batteries and I really can't understand much at all without my hearing aids. I've had them in every purse I've ever taken on a flight and there's never been any fucking problem. I calmly and pleasantly explained that, even though I wanted to scream in frustration, but she insisted on it. I had to dig my nails into my palm to keep calm, because I knew there'd only be major trouble for me if I kicked up any fuss.
I know this has nothing to do with the OP, but I'm trying to point out that maybe Mallory was trying to calmly complain about mistreatment, which is far more common than we'd ever like to think at airports and on the part of airlines, and because of who she is, and how that's perceived as a "threat" to the PTB. they decided to "teach her a lesson."

(68,667 posts)"American said it apologized for mishandling Mallorys attempt to move from a middle seat to an aisle seat, but it denied the heart of her accusation.
The American team does not tolerate discrimination of any kind, said spokesman Ross Feinstein. This was about de-escalating a situation onboard the aircraft.
The crew decided that the best thing to do was rebook Mallory on the next flight to New Yorks LaGuardia Airport, and Mallory took that flight home, Feinstein said.
Mallory said that she used an airport kiosk to upgrade her seat, but when she tried to board the plane, an employee tore up her boarding pass and gave her another with her original middle seat. American said there was an error in the seating process, because the seat that Mallory requested was not available.
The gate agent was unable to explain the error, and Mallory accused the agent, a black woman, of failing to treat her with respect.
One of the pilots got involved at the end of the confrontation, Mallory said, asking her if she could behave herself once on board the plane."
After going to her seat, Mallory was called to the front of the plane, where she was met by several employees and was told she was being removed.
Some other passengers who photographed Mallory on the plane said that she cursed and was abusive to crew members. On Facebook Live, Mallory did not dispute that, but said she only lost her composure when it was clear that she was being kicked off.

(50,562 posts)According to the articles, she tried to change a center seat to an aisle seat at a ticketing kiosk. When she got to the gate, their computer had changed her back to the center seat. At the gate she "firmly let her know..."
Would the rest of the world describe her "firmly let her know" as "screaming at the top of your damn lungs"? Come on...this is 2017 America, everyone has a video camera in their phone and two-thirds of us will turn the thing on at the slightest provocation. There has GOT to be some third-party video of this incident, and seeing some will clear this up in a hurry.
