press conference, then flat-lined her campaign with the Oct. 28 letter, thereby insuring the rise of the debacle that is trump to the White House?

(46,756 posts)And in his testimony before Congress he said that it bothered him to think he might have flipped the election. I am paraphrasing. Hard to believe that he made such a damaging decision based on his assumption that Hillary was going to win, even though he had to know there was an investigation tying Trump to Russia.

(12,344 posts)And it appears that may be true. He didn't know how his actions would be percieved. He thought he could blend into the drapes with a blue suit. He tjought Trump wouldn't fire him.

(46,756 posts)His entire professional life was based on going after the Clintons. I think he became an old dog that would not let go of the bone. So, in his own way, he did become political in the end.

(6,288 posts)Chaffetz quietly declassified info that led to the Comey memo.
Only he wasn't supposed to do that & got caught.
He can & may still be charged for that dirty move. Howrver chatter says that Chaffetz dished some Repub dirt to Feds before he resigned in hopes/exchange for leniency.
Then he disappeared from public life.

Why isn't he guilty of violating the Hatch Act?
Neither side trusts him, and for good reason.

Comey the Boy Scout who notified a political hack that his investigation would be re-opened at the eleventh hour based upon the possibility that just maybe there were more Clinton emails his agency had not yet digested.
The man who hid in the draperies, hoping to blend in with the blue fabric so that Trump would not notice him. The golly, gee whiz, o Lordy, congressional hearing Comey, who had begged the Attorney General to not leave him alone with that man Trump.
Comey the Innocent, the altar boy who somehow got to head the largest domestic intelligence gathering agency in America.
Comey is an actor.
