Boycott Pizza Places That Don't Offer Anchovies?

Pizza Huts don't. Many others don't. Is this unfair? Should they be boycotted? Are Republican bigots responsible?

I vote for a boycott. Your thoughts?

Anchovies are clustering in Monterey Bay and other near-shore areas, creating a feeding frenzy for humpback whales and other ocean wildlife.

Margarita pizza either Vera Napoli or New York style crust the best. San marzano tomatoes and real mozzarella di bufalo is the best as the buffalo has a higher cream content.

Mortadella, arugula, and acciuge is a great pizza to enjoy anchovies. Get good imported anchovies cured in salt not oil and taste the difference.

Chain pizza is porcherie.

I have been to Italy dozens of times and I have never seen an olive on a pizza let alone those nasty black lye cured pressure cooked things

Jansson's Temptation (Janssons Frestelse)

Ingredients

2 large onions, cut into 1/4 inch wide strips
14 fillets Swedish anchovies, or regular anchovies
6 potatoes, peeled and cut into strips
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
2 tablespoons dry bread crumbs
1 tablespoon melted butter

Directions

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Butter a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Spread onions evenly onto the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Evenly distribute anchovies on top of the onions. Place potatoes on top of the anchovies, then pour in heavy cream. Mix bread crumbs together with the melted butter, then sprinkle over top of the potatoes.
Place onto a baking sheet to catch any cream which bubbles over. Bake in preheated oven until the potatoes have softened, the cream has reduced, and the dish has turned deep golden brown, about 45 minutes.

I haven't - I tried to make them once with Swedish anchovies I bought at IKEA. I had the other ingredients ready and when I opened the anchovies, they were bad. I cooked the dish without them, but I suspect it would have been much better with!

Actually I do. And the ones I use are still preserved in salt.lin a can. I have to soak them in water and then 'filet' them. But my wife calls me a good snob.

And if you ever get to a Mediterranean country and see them grilled on the menu order them. They grill them fresh and along with grilled fresh sardines they are among the best fish possible. Plus very environmentally friendly. Very low on the food chain. We should eat more small fishes and less Tuna and swordfish.

Have a great evening.

I make my own now. Saves $$ and you can't beat made at home.

One customer wanted his pizza super anchovy. My friend put dozens of anchovies on it and then dumped the oil they were in on top. The customer loved it, said it was the best pizza he'd ever eaten.

At some point we came up with the idea of rolling up the raw pizza crusts and making cinnamon rolls out of them. Mind you, the crust had black pepper in it. We experimented and put the rest out of for the customers. They were gone in seconds. From then on, we had customers asking for cinnamon rolls.

So I wonder what the reaction would be if we had made cinnamon rolls with anchovies in the middle. Might have been a hit.

I especially like about any seafood too. Anchovies come canned don't they? No reason to not have them if you just need to keep a few cans on hand.

that was half anchovies and half pepperoni. The nasty anchovy flavor TOTALLY ruined the entire pizza.

Okay, so if you like anchovies don't go to pizza places that don't offer them. But do NOT expect the rest of us to be willing to tolerate them.

I love anchovies on pizza, my wife not so much.

When we go out for pizza, I have them do ½ with anchovies, but to put all they would have put on the other half on my half, too. Essentially, ½ double anchovy.

I have a tube of anchovy past that I add to a lot of recipes to add some 'umami'.

In some Italian markets you can get jars of anchovies packed in salt, without the oil. Super flavorful!

I tried them twice to make sure but I did not like the taste and they are way way to salty for me. I would boycott a place that did not have mushrooms however. A pizza is not a pizza if there are no mushrooms.

Everyone was shaking their heads wondering, "WTF did I just listen to?"

Popular music doesn't have a sense of humor anymore.

Worcestershire Sauce.

Okay, so that's two words. Or up to five, depending on how you pronounce "Worcestershire".

Rich in Omega 3 fatty acids and protein. Also an important source of dietary sodium when you can't get to the McDonald's.

98. Pissaladire -- more anchovies, less pizza.

I have heard it suggested that this is the true ancestor of pizza, and may even be the source of the name. Don't know about that, but at least you can try making it at home:

Pissaladière (French pronunciation: [pisaladjɛʁ]; Niçard: pissaladiera, [pisalaˈdjeɾɔ] or pissaladina [pisalaˈdinɔ]; Ligurian: piscialandrea [piʃalanˈdreːa]) is a dish which originated from Nice in Southern France. The dough is usually a bread dough thicker than that of the classic pizza Margherita, and the traditional topping consists of usually caramelised (almost pureed) onions, black olives, and anchovies (whole, and sometimes also with pissalat, a type of anchovy paste).[1] Now served as an appetizer, it was traditionally cooked and sold early each morning around Nice.

The etymology of the word seems to be from the Latin piscis,[2] which in turn became pissalat (via peis salat, "salted fish" in Ligurian and Niçard).[3]

Pizza is onion, tomato, and basil. The best.

Does Pizza Hut serve beer? If not, I'll join your boycott.

In San Francisco most people go to the "Mom & Pop" local Pizza places and the Big Huge Companies don't get much business here

I nominate: Gaspare's Pizza House & Italian Restaurant
