National Security Division oversees work on counterterrorism, counterintelligence, and cyber threats
Boente will replace Mary McCord at the National Security Division

Washington (CNN)A career federal prosecutor who was thrust into the midst of a whirlwind past three months at the Justice Department has been tapped to serve as the interim head of its national security division -- a post that oversees the FBI's work on potential coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian meddling in the presidential election.

The department announced Friday that Dana Boente has been appointed the acting assistant attorney general for the national security division. The job also includes overseeing other high-profile investigations, such as those into Wikileaks' Julian Assange. CNN was first to report Boente's new appointment.

"Dana Boente has been a dedicated public servant for decades and has served in important leadership roles in the Department of Justice," said Attorney General Jeff Sessions said in a statement. "In recent months, he has provided extraordinary leadership during the transition period. I am pleased that he has agreed to continue his service by leading our efforts to keep America safe."
...............................
Boente was then later appointed to the No. 2 spot at DOJ as acting deputy attorney general and tasked with not only overseeing the Russia probe after Sessions recused himself, but also had the job of calling Preet Bharara -- then US attorney for the Southern District of New York -- to tell him that the President had fired him along with dozens of other top prosecutors around the country.

Why would Boente resign?

Because his work is complete & he moves on as witness for Mueller's case.
BECAUSE you can’t both be a prosecutor AND a witness.
Really really hoping this is the direction its taking.

I think the Mercers are in deep with Meullers indictments also. At least Rebekka is!

Lots of news coming out in bits now.

Maybe Mueller's indictments are about to all be unsealed at once.
That'd be a lovely pic

@TeaPainUSA
Means Mueller would have indictments and no use for Grand Jury in EDVA anymore.

A couple weeks ago It was said that Mueller would be issuing indictments by Halloween.

Today they said Tksgiving.

I'm going with Halloween👿

A prosecutor can't be a witness in a specific case he is prosecuting. But to suggest he has to resign his job to be a witness in a case is ridiculous. But when you get your law from twitter ...

Not holding my breath. I've seen this kind of excitement end up as a heartbreak.

No slam intended on the OP or anyone else in here.

7. When the indictments come, if now or in a few weeks.

I believe there will be very powerful evidence to support them. So powerful, that the evidence will shake Drump and his group to the core. I can wait a few weeks, if that is what it does. And it will.

10. I can't get my hopes up. Trump has been able to avoid reality consistently.

and I don't expect that to change.

Mueller could reveal devastating evidence against Trump and his minions but until the Republican Congress decides, for their own self-serving reasons, to dump him it won't make an iota if difference.

Trump could actually be running a pedophile business behind a Pizza parlor and it wouldn't phase the Republicans.

Perhaps after they pass their humongous tax cuts for the super-rich, balanced by giant cuts in essential services for the public, Trump might become dispensable but until then they aren't going to rock the boat.

by unknown people, not sourced. Is Tea Pain well known or something?

In any case, I hope Tea Pain is right. But it's possible the prosecutor is retiring because he has cancer or something, and was waiting until there was a good time to leave, to cause the least disruption. We just don't know...yet.
