A beer story to help you understand trickle-down economics

Imagine a multi-story apartment building with a central stairwell. The management raises rents on the people who live in the lower floors and lowers rent for folk living on the top floor. This benefits everyone! The people on the top floor now have extra cash, so they haul up lots of kegs in their private elevator and hold a beer bash at the top of the stairwell for their top floor friends. They drink lots of beer. As time passes, they're all-sheets-to-the wind happy, and people need to solve the used-beer problem. But the powder rooms are busy, so people go out to use the stairwell, and it all trickles down to the lower floors
