Manafort could face up to 40 years in prisonThe violation of a money laundering statute alone could carry up to 20 years.

Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort surrendered to the FBI Monday morning, and he could face up to 40 years in prison if he is found guilty on all charges.
Manafort was charged along with a former business associate, Rick Gates. Last year, Reuters reported that Gates acted as an unpaid, de facto campaign manager for then-candidate Donald Trump for two months and worked for a super PAC supporting Trump during the campaign.
The pair was charged with 12 counts, according to the indictment unsealed Monday morning: conspiracy against the United States, conspiracy to launder money, unregistered agent of a foreign principal, false and misleading FARA statements, false statements, and seven counts of failure to file reports of foreign bank and financial accounts.

(28,270 posts)The difference between right wing fever dreams and actual crimes being committed is here for all to see.
Republicans connected to the crime boss-in-chief cooling their heels in the slammer right now facing a 40 year prison sentence.
That kinda time might just make a person want to cooperate with the prosecutor for a lesser sentence and/or immunity huh?
Manafort better watch his back for friends of Putin though.
Just sayin.

(51,611 posts)I think dozens of people went to jail during Watergate but none for very long. Even the convicted Nazis at the Nuremberg Trials all got out earlier than they were sentenced for as predicted at the time.
Now if he were a person of color driving in a racist town and had a broken tail light, he'd be lucky to get off with 40 years (that is if he wasn't shot in the back first).

(3,290 posts)the possibility of forty years in the slammer I would be singing like the "Three Tenors in Concert". I would then do an encore if asked. These are not young men and that would be a sizable chunk of their remaining years.

(1,058 posts)There's a (small) credit for good behavior, and drug offenders who complete some forms of rehab can get time off, but there's no process analogous to parole in state prisons, effectively meaning that people have to serve their full sentences.

(32,027 posts)Federal sentencing guidelines would allow a federal judge to sentence him to five years at the most. He has no prior criminal history and that goes a long way.
