Even Republicans Would Back Trumps Impeachment If He Fires Mueller, Democrats Say

If President Donald Trump attempts to fire special counsel Robert Mueller, even Republicans would draw a line and call for the president’s impeachment, two House Democrats suggested Monday.

In the wake of the indictment of Paul Manafort, Trump’s former campaign chairman, and a guilty plea Monday from campaign aide George Papadopoulos, multiple Democrats have raised concerns about the president seeking to interfere in the investigation.

One, Representative Ruben Gallego of Arizona, told Newsweek that if Trump were to fire Mueller, he would go before the House of Representatives to file articles of impeachment and call for a vote.

“There’s a clear investigation happening, and the president’s influence in this would be obstruction of justice, and therefore in my mind would hit my level to where I think a member of Congress should proceed with articles of impeachment,” he said.

Specifically, Gallego added, it would be time for Ryan to break with his pattern of declining to censure his party’s president.

"I think Paul Ryan needs to show some courage here and clearly say that firing Mueller and shutting down this investigation is an impeachable offense, and not just stand to the sidelines,” he said. “That’s the only way that this doesn’t evolve to that point.” - Newsweek

the fact is all Congress members have a "candy list" that they want. Joe Mancin might be a Democrat, but if St.Nick a.k.a. Trump promises that everyone will have to buy some coal for their Christmas stocking, we know which way he will vote.. We can not, repeat not expect any backbone out of the same GOP that was willing to let Trump degrade them like one of Putin's prostitutes doing you know what.

Or Heitkamp, or most other Dems who represent a conservative state or district. Every one of those folks has stepped up on the Russian issue, and ACA, and most other important topics. I'm worried about the Susan Collins and Jeff Flakes of the world, and even more about folks like Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell, who aren't stupid and should stand up against Trump, but don't seem inclined to do so.

If Mueller announces indictments of Trump's family that implicate Trump, and Trump then fires Mueller, then Republicans might support impeachment. But if he fires Mueller before that -- like tomorrow -- those cowards won't support impeachment. I'm a pretty reasonable person, and shy away from the fire-brand type of politics some espouse, but I'm becoming a bit discouraged/angered by the willingness to excuse Trump's apparent collusion (not to mention his sexual assaults, mocking of handicapped individuals, bullying, and just generally being a shitty human being).

Nor the law.
Nor the ethical.
Nor the Christian.

We, as citizens, need to write our congresscritters and let them know we're watching them closely at this time in our nation's history.

Wishful thinking on the part of those Democrats who helped report this story. Or perhaps it was a front to perhaps convince Dotard not to act.
