I agree. Trump is all about the outrageous. Congressional Republicans have all but surrendered to Trumpism. No articles of impeachment after Mueller is fired.

(10,024 posts)If they can distract a bit with the Hillary/DNC are eviler nonsense and things look from the outside like the Mueller Investigation is stalled, they will say they are pulling the plug to save taxpayers money (never mind the hypocrisy with the whitewater investigations, Benghazi investigations, etc.). Time to move on and MAGA.

(25,862 posts)I think that Trump can't directly fire him, but would have to get the Attorney General to do so. Of course Sessions would probably do so, unlike what happened in 1973 (the Saturday Night Massacre. Google it if you don't already know what that was.) But firing Mueller would cause every bit of an uproar as the SNM, which would mean a clear path to removing Trump from office or his resignation.

Cancelled checks written to the pee-prostititutes.
All his secret accounts in Cyprus suddenly drained.
Tax returns published in full.

I think it would fall to Rosenstein and then down the line if Rosenstein refused.

(63,215 posts)There are basically four possible results:
1. Mueller resigns
2. Mueller is fired/transferred
3. Mueller dies
4. Mueller completes his investigation
Of those, #3 is probably most unlikely, with #1 close behind. Of the remaining options, and given Trump's utterly unhinged demeanor, #2 is a reasonable conclusion easily made by anyone with a functioning brainstem.
In short, I am not impressed by people "predicting" that Mueller will be fired. Doug Christian can go jump in a lake.

Trump remains and gets by on legal technicalities...
... and a whole bunch of media news cycles that end up accomplishing nothing.

(63,215 posts)If Mueller can't get Trump, then I would prefer that the investigation never happened in the first place.
If Trump survives, then he'll be absolutely invulnerable for the remainder of his term, and he'll be crowing about his amazing victory until ten years after he's dead in the ground.

(2,807 posts)Since 1978 neither the Legislative nor Judicial Branches have any power regarding Special Prosecutors. All power rests solely in the Executive Branch.
Since 1978 only Attorneys General, or Acting Attorneys General, have hired a or terminated Special Prosecutors.
Nobody really knows what would happen if a POTUS would fire one. Because there is no Legislation on Special Prosecutors. None. Not since 1999.
Its why whenever this situation is brought up the answer is always, "Well it would cause a Constitutional Crisis".
It would be a Constitutional Crisis because the Constitution can offer no answer to this problem.

Congress could pass a law appointing one. But we know THIS Congress wouldnt.

Trump colluded with the Russians. He knows it. Mueller knows it. Trump knows Mueller knows it. Trump knows that Mueller will eventually prove it.
The die is cast.

Though the tea-leaves didn't work out quite as planned for the clairvoyants and palm readers of yesterday's 'nothingburger,' as that particular ground beef sandwich was filled with deliciously grilled red meat.
I'd hazard this unsupported guess will end the same... not with a bang, but with people hoping their failed predictions are lost in the interwebs.

(12,344 posts)Mueller can only be fired "for cause." A straight firing without a showing of cause, will result in immediate reinstatement. A made up cause will take a little longer, but same result. In either case, the investigation continues even without Mueller.
In the end, firing Mueller would trump firing Comey as the worst political blunder in political history.
