In a rare move, the NYPD will internally try two Brooklyn cops accused of raping a prisoner — before their criminal trial takes place, the Daily News has learned.

Police Officers Edward Martins and Richard Hall are charged with raping and kidnapping an 18-year-old woman they picked up for drug possession in Brooklyn on Sept. 15.

Martins, 37, and Hall, 32, who have already been demoted from the rank of detective, say they had consensual sex with the teenager.

1. Internal trial? What the ever-loving fuck?

Is that even a thing?

That (cops having their own internal court system) sounds like a really bad idea.

In fact, if I was their defense lawyer, I might go "Hmm."

I just don't think cops trying and convicting or trying and exonerating anyone before an actual for-real criminal trial is a good thing.

If the cops are black, they could probably just shoot 'em too.

No way in hell that line of defense can stand up in a courtroom. However, you have to ask if other cops will accept it. If this internal trial found the defense reasonable, would that sway the actual court trial? In other words, I don't see how you could get an impartial trial after an internal trial has already been conducted and there is a verdict.

apparently you come up with some creative interpretations to try to avoid prison. Hopefully it's not effective.
