Trump said aboard Air Force One as he winged toward Japan on Sunday that he expected the sit-down to occur on the sidelines of a summit for Asia-Pacific leaders in Vietnam, which is due to begin Thursday.
The talks will come as the investigation into Trump's ties to Russia's 2016 election meddling heats up back home. Before Trump departed for Asia, three of his campaign aides were ensnared in the probe led by special counsel Robert Mueller. During their first meeting in July, Trump did raise the issue of Russia's interference, though since then he's called the notion that Russia worked to sway the vote in his favor a hoax.
Trump and his aides had hoped this week's grueling itinerary through five countries would help distract from the Russia matter, though Trump himself appeared preoccupied by the issue as he departed the White House on Friday, unleashing a stream of tweets as Air Force One headed toward Hawaii.

(12,608 posts)Russias Recent Expansion of Economic Assistance to North Korea
Even though Russian policymakers have consistently supported sanctions against North Korea for its nuclear weapons buildup and publicly criticized the DPRK regimes belligerent foreign policy, the Kremlin has played a critical role in ameliorating North Koreas economic isolation. The contrast between Kremlin rhetoric and policy towards North Korea has been most stark in the spheres of infrastructure and energy.
On January 31, Russias state news agency, TASS, reported that Russia Railways representatives visited North Korea to discuss an expansion of railway links between the two countries. The Russian delegations trip proved fruitful, as both parties agreed to expand training opportunities for North Korean engineers at Russian universities.
Increasing the exposure of North Korean workers to Russian technical expertise will allow more North Koreans to staff the Rajin-Hasan railway, which links Russia to the Korean peninsula. Even though South Korea withdrew itself from the Rajin-Hasan railway project in March 2016, Moscows willingness to continue the projects development highlights the strength of its relationship with the North Korean regime, during a period of unprecedented isolation for Pyongyang.
As Chinas oil supplies to North Korea have been periodically disrupted due to tensions between Beijing and Pyongyang, Moscows importance as an investor in the DPRKs energy sector has increased markedly. Siberian oil companies have sold fuel to North Korea via a supply route linking Vladivostok to Rajin. These fuel supplies have provided the North Korean regime with vital hard currency, as the DPRK has processed Siberian oil in chemical plants and resold it to Chinese consumers.
Kim has responded to Russias consistency as a North Korean economic ally by publicly hailing the DPRKs partnership with Moscow and increasing its shipments of guest workers to construction projects in Siberia. The presence of 10,000 North Koreans in Russia and the DPRKs convenience as a source of cheap labor for Putins attempts to modernize Vladivostok suggests that Moscow is unlikely to match its critical rhetoric on North Koreas nuclear buildup with retaliatory actions for the foreseeable future.

(16,859 posts)Despite the ominous point of the article about Trump meeting with Daddy, why is the media playing this grueling narrative constantly with every diplomatic trump that Trump makes?? Its infuriating and seems to imply that Trump is being ask to do more than is usual for a President. They did the same crap when he went to Europe.
Im sooooooo sorry this man child doesnt have the mental capacity or patience to actually function as the leader of the free world, but maybe he should have thought of that before he decided to take the office.
