Our DOTUS will make his South Korean visit on his current Asian Tour at Camp Humphreys, a relatively new consolidated US military base in that country. It's south of Seoul, but not all that far south, really.
Ostensibly, this choice of location was made to avoid the provocation of a presidential visit to the heavily-armed DMZ. However, since our chief executive, in his debatable wisdom, provokes North Korea at every opportunity, I wonder whether that will do any good.
A look at the map shows that this large base is not that far from the DMZ. Not that far at all. I imagine that Kim Jong Un will still think he is being provoked by this visit, and Trump's likely to spew provocative statement liberally from his mouth throughout his Asian Tour.
I don't think he'll be any safer at Camp Humphreys than at the DMZ, frankly. It's well within reach of North Korean arms.

(146,308 posts)An attack on a US military base would risk fewer South Koreans, too. It raises some concerns, I think. Kim is nucking futs, and thinks things like decapitation is good strategy. I'm actually surprised that Trump is going anywhere in South Korea, frankly.
