A man shot & killed his 14-year-old son because he was gay

By Alex Bollinger · Sunday, November 5, 2017

A 14-year-old boy was killed by his own father Thursday, and people close to the victim say that the man shot the boy out of homophobia.

Giovanni Melton was a student at Coronado High School in a suburb of Las Vegas, Nevada. Friends described him as selfless and charismatic. “It’s just sad. He was young and he had a lot to live for,” senior Bailey Schultz said about Giovanni.

Giovanni and his older brother were living largely alone in a condo, according to neighbors, who knew the boys because they would often ask for food. Court records show that their mother abandoned them and an allegation of child abuse had already been made against their father Wendell, 53.

Sonja Jones, who described herself as Giovanni’s former foster mother, said that Wendell hated the fact that his son was gay. “Giovanni was abused physically and mentally and spiritually for many, many years,” she said.

Hope he spends the rest of his evil life in jail. What a complete loser.

Just another poor excuse for a human being, it is epidemic all the way up to that Orange Creep at the top.

Bless that child, if there is an afterlife he will be free from his awful father, who will be in a place way south of his child.

This boy was living alone.

The father had threatened him (with a weapon) before!

Why couldn't he have continued to live with the foster parent? She clearly cared for him better than either of his biological parents.

What a handsome guy -- this is such a tragedy.

the victims often don't know what resources are there for them, or the resources no longer exists due to cuts.

Presumably she’d have knowledge of resources available.

Very sad story.
