(8,419 posts)People need to band together and vote these assholes out, in 2018 and 2020.
Then we need to push for cleaning up the Gerrymandering performed in 2010, push for new voter rights laws, and imprison those guilty of financial crimes.
Dems need to open their eyes, Republicans are bad, very bad people. Now they may be family members, friends, and neighbors, but their morals suck.
70% of them believe Obama was born in Kenya and supported a racists asshole.
100% of them supported a racist, immoral, scam artist.
They refused to put a SC nominee for vote and were rewarded.
They refused to assist Obama in any way and were rewarded.
The problem ain't tRump, the problem is Republican voters.

(6,228 posts)repubs are very bad people. Think about it, we the people play a part too. The repubs have won many of the past elections. Why? It simply can't just be the Dems fault.

(14,574 posts)and corrupt thing that has ever come down the pike. Trump is the most unpresidential piece of human crap who ever squatted in the White House. The stuff he's tried to do will actually hurt his base, and people are now seeing this.
Now, Obama was an excellent president, but he had to be, because he was black. If he did even one of the stupid things Trump has done, he'd have been impeached in his first term.
Even though Obama was a good and moral man and had no scandles, we had about a third of the nation who picked apart everything he did and thought he was terrible. This was helped along by no fairness doctrine, which allowed Fox, Breitbart and other right wing propaganda organs to spew out lies and selectively ignore anything good.
I have a friend who believes that we needed a Trump presidency after Obama to show everyone that. I believe that everyone is seeing now, with Trump's popularity down in the 30s. The people who have been seduced by the real right wing-nuts seem to be peeling off.
I'm optimistic too, over the long term. We just have to keep nut-job from throwing around nukes while the jaws of justice are closing in on him. And we must stay engaged as we have been, with plenty of letters, petitions and phone calls.

(81,267 posts)Not just Hillary, but Joy Reid. Still being squandered on the weekends, but at least they give her lots of fill-in work. They damn well better! It's the very least they can do. If it were up to me, I'd give her Andrea Mitchells time slot and send Andrea off to tag along with Tillerson or some such.

(17,984 posts)And look how the Press attacked him. We must understand the media is responsible, too.
Look how they repeat the bile day after day.
They pushed Trump 24/7; then pretended to be shocked. They attacked Hillary like a pack of dogs after a Fox. We can not pretend only Fox and the right are to blame. Not true.

(23,233 posts)Obama was hated by the 1% whose power and wealth and comfort he challenged, and they felt threatened. They counterattacked by using their media control to feed the raw meat to the deplorables, who piled on the hatred.

more than they love what common threads bind us together. Oh yes, they openly cheer anytime they get a victory over any liberal cause, like clean air/water, renewable energy, unrestricted gun sales to anyone and everyone, even terrorists on law enforcement watch lists, lust for more military weapons and war hawkish talk, or cringe at any complaint about the mess progressives feel republicans are getting our country into. All of it. The more unhappy 67% of the country is, the happier they are.
Truly childish behavior and 100% vindictive schadenfreude.

(145 posts)why is she hosting on her show bitter, three-time loser Donna B, who is doing all she can to help the Pukes and p-Resident evil? Let Donna go on Fox-whom I have to believe she thinks might hire her sorry ass--and MSM to spread her hate and anger and vicious lies. Why give her a platform on MSNBC on a weekend morning or any time for that matter?
Donna B. is the Nazi's best friend. Why give them further support?
It's unconscionable and vile to have this POS subhuman (Subhum) further trying to destroy the country and planet. What is Joy Reid's problem?
From now on, I consider her show as just another arm of Breitbart News.

(6,254 posts)I get it, I posted earlier in the week saying Dems should shut up about Donna B and not give her a forum. I was called out by DUers for advocating against transparency in the Dems. We Dems dont need transparency, we need to fight these bastards with all we have. Joy is one of the best at deconstructing those on the right and their collaborators. I didnt see her show today, but I would rather have her there standing up for the truth. And Dems must, must stop cannibalizing each other. We need discipline, new faces, firey, enthusiastic advocates. I like Hillary and Bill but it is time to move on to the next generation of Democratic leaders. We were all fooled into thinking American was different after Obama, who I think was a great president. The fact is though is that America is a bit beaten up right now and on the ropes. I fear if we do not right the ship soon, that which makes America great will be lost. We are living in the twilight zone right now and I want the damn episode to end.

Look at Brian Stelter yesterday. For a good 21 minutes he allowed Kelly Anne to blather her lies.
I switched stations, flipped back 20 minutes later, she was still ranting.
First time I was ever disappointed in Brian. He suffered for this.

(265 posts)It's hard to look at the news today.
I was wine tasting with like-minded family yesterday and a discussion with a wine pourer turned to the current state of affairs. She seemed incredulous that we suggested voting for someone other than Trump. I could tell, and I'm utterly crushed to realize, that there are many people who hate Hillary so much that they still see him as the only alternative. For this reason, they are blind to the corruption and criminal activity of this administration. Now, this winery is in an area posted with signs branding it the "State of Jefferson." (These people support succession from California.) Even so, I have good friends that blame Hillary for Benghazi (still!) and wouldn't vote for her.
Seems we agree on very little these days.

(6,254 posts)Joys words are profound indeed. Looking at everything realistically though, things are going to get worse before they get better. Trump will fight like a cornered animal rather than do the noble thing and resign. Social and political norms have been shattered to the point that sexual assault, bullying and racism have become woven into the fabric of right-wing orthodoxy. More concerning is that there is no credible organized opposition to these republicans who have sold their soul and their country to the devil. Even John Boehner has called out the right for their cowardice and failure to stand up to Fox and other right-wing nuts who have literally ripped our country apart. I am 55 years old and tell my 4 kids in my day it would have been unthinkable to imagine Russian interference in anything American. We all could agree that no matter our internal differences we all faced a common enemy. Its is just exhausting and I fear will only get worse after Mueller is finished.

(81,267 posts)I'm a big fan of Joy Reid.
I've often said, heard, and read, that familiar saying you quoted - about how things are going to get worse before they get better. But it's cold comfort by now because things DON'T seem to be getting better. I don't know when that hoped-for improvement might even start. Things only seem to be getting worse, week by week.
I have a good friend who voted for trump - get this: because of Pence! She claimed that it was "at least he's had experience in government..." And after they stole their way in, illegitimate as they were and are, and started proving what absolute human lice they've been showing themselves to be, she began to burble "well, I'm just going to remain hopeful..." My thought then, and even moreso now, is WHAT hope? HOPEFUL??? Are you DAFT? Have you been asleep for the past few years? Where the living hell have you been?

(6,254 posts)What gets me is that quite a few of my friends who support Trump and are successful and educated people. However, the really are brainwashed, it is the only reasonable explanation. They reject facts, have a superficial understanding of the issues and spout and cannot hold an intelligent conversation. Every discussion devolves into them saying what about the emails, or crooked Hillary or other non-sense. And yes you are correct, these same people who eviscerated Obama for 8 years now say give trump a chance . The audacity of these people is simply stunning. I will no longer argue politics and policy with the stupid. Its exhausting and I cannot change their mind. It is quite depressing and sad indication that America is truly on a downward spiral as there is no evidence that common sense and humanity will return the the right. With Sinclair Broadcasting buying up stations at a fast pace our political discourse will only deteriorate faster.

(81,267 posts)And I seriously do wonder if our country is on that same track (like ALL the rest of 'em) throughout history, whether it's recorded in writing, oral tradition, or even the fossil record built over the eons.
Even the most ferocious dominators or dominating groups eventually lose their dominant position. Whether it's Nazi Germany or the British Empire or the Spanish Empire or the Roman (Holy or otherwise) Empire or the Phoenicians or Greeks or Hittites or Egyptians or Babylonians or Huns or Genghis Khan - or even in the creature kingdom - Tyrannosaurus Rex and raptors and other predators at the top of the food chain, and so forth. That universal cliche seems to apply across the board - "what goes up must come down."
With the way our country's psyche, its whole collective being, seems to be on a deteriorating spiral, manifesting a downward trend that only seems to be accelerating, I have to concede that I can't help but think that's US now. That WE are that. Could it be that it's simply now OUR turn on that inevitable slide, having had our turn on the top rung of the civilization ladder? And if so, in that regard at least, we're frankly nothing special. We're simply taking our place, and our turn, in the cycle of rise-and-fall. Seems as though every dominant entity is on that common path. Pushing upward toward dominance, with the inevitable downward slide off the top of the ziggurat, that follows. And I cannot help but wonder if we're just the latest example.
