Gerrymander 5K

Runners taking part in a 5km race .. in North Carolina on Saturday .. followed a zigzag course .. all around the houses.

The event was .. a .. demonstration of the absurdity .. of the way voting boundaries have been .. gerrymandered ...

The .. route of .. "Gerrymander 5K" turned sharp corners and went forward and back .. wriggling along barely populated streets and .. blocks with no sidewalks.

... runners were following an invisible line that since 2011 has divided what was previously a single US congressional seat into two odd-shaped districts. The line split the electorate in a swing district that often voted Democratic. Each half was .. in a new district dominated by a traditionally Republican rural area ...

It always has been. Granted the Repub take over of state legislatures was a focus of theirs specifically for this but...

Of the 435 House seats about 40-50 are really in doubt. This both protects sitting members who hold important/powerful positions and it limits the amounts of money both parties have to spend.
