Having been the victim of a crime, I can say that we don't CARE whether you care or not. We want it to not keep happening. You don't need to prove squat, or say the "right" things.

If you feel the need to say the "right" things or act a certain way, you're being self-indulgent. You're making it about YOU and how YOU feel, and you don't want people to gossip about you and say you didn't react appropriately. That's not what matters to victims. What matters to the victims is WHY this happened, and how we can make it happen less often.

...after one shooting, and he said, "this can't keep happening," and he was visibily angry, and I was so grateful at that moment that we had someone in the WH who was thoughtful and UNDERSTOOD what the appropriate response was. This thoughts and prayers stuff is distancing yourself from the victims. Be angry on their behalf. Ask why it happens.

I am not a victim of a crime like this, but if I were, I would not give two shits about your condolences.
I would want to know why you think that I was just another unlucky churchgoer that got mowed down, as if the victim should have known better after all the senseless murders by gun nuts, to not go out where innocents are slain.

You want to give thoughts and prayers, but I want revenge. I want lawmakers exiled for voting with the NRA. I want 2A idiots to admit their fetish for blood and machismo. And I want IQ and EQ tests for everyone entering a gun show or store.
