(45,488 posts)Was voter #179 on the optical scanner, but since they had 2, that means over 300 people voted in the 1st hour.

(12,448 posts)I heard on WTOP this morning that turnout is equal to a presidential race in Loudon County. Looks like NoVa is rocking! As VA's neighbor (MD) I'm rooting for you.

(30,613 posts)...by our precinct's standards, which means no line at all except in a Pres. year.

(2,419 posts)haven't missed an election in 41 years-which tells you how old I am. Modest turnout at best-which is good, since I live in an overwhelmingly Republican area. Not much enthusiasm for Guadagno. These people would even vote for Donald Trump as long as he was running as a republican (oh wait-that really happened!)

(10,500 posts)The closest comparison I can think of is California in 1992. George HW Bush was extremely unpopular, but Pete Wilson was even more disliked. (BTW, that is a really good example to show how absurd the claim was that Perot took more votes from Bush than than Clinton).
Even Sam Brownback is more popular than Christie. I am glad that the people of NJ finally see him for who he is. It is too bad that it is too late to get back all the transportation money that they lost when he turned down stimulus funds.

(33,525 posts)I usually don't need to wait in line but I needed to do so this morning. Voted straight Democratic and FOR library bonds and dedication of superfund allocations to Environmental cleanup.

(9,762 posts)There were about forty of us waiting to vote, looked like good turnout from the vote before going to work crowd.

She likes to come with me.
This year I threw my hat into the ring as a local candidate. I live in a red town and am running as a Dem (of course) so the odds are not in my favor, but I think we will give them a run for their money!
I'm part of a group of local women who are all first time democratic candidates, running in red towns. It's a real thing!
Will report back.
Update: dem turnout is running at almost twice that of republicans and unaffiliated. However, the reality is that my down just doesnt have enough Dems for me to win without a decent percentage of unaffiliated and Republicans crossing party lines.
That said, even if I lose, Ill have turned out votes for the governor and state legislative races that they werent expecting, which can only help!
Edit 2: waiting on results.
Edit 3: lost by about 120 votes or 4.5%. Considering the demographics, Ill Sleep just fine tonight.
Good luck. Nice to know you're not alone with your candidacy. Every vote counts!

(5,043 posts)According to our challengers on the ground, so far they are 31% of the actual voters.
I think that could be a good sign.

(17,444 posts)Media reports as of 1 pm 24,007 votes cast in Albemarle (34% turnout) and 9,006 in Charlottesville (31%).
I voted at my Central Virginia purple precinct. It was not very busy, turnout was 43.4% at 2:30.
McAuliffe won by 2.1 points in 2013 with a 57% turnout. Hillary won by 0.7% in 2016 with a 77% turnout.

(2,220 posts)My voting place is not a very busy one, ever, but there were about 7 people total there.
Hard for me to judge.

(17,444 posts)Media report as of 4 pm put turnout at around 42% for both. This doesn't include absentee ballots.

(2,340 posts)There was a steady stream and good turn-out. Where I live, it doesn't mean much as the town is equally divided between Democrats, Republicans and Unaffiliated.
I'm the town Chair so district leaders are going to be brining the numbers back to my house. I don't know whether I'll be able to post before there's an official call.
Madam Mossfern
(2,340 posts)That means that a lot of people turned.
Woo hoo!!!

(332 posts)We had the Xbox One X launch, which was a huge hit..although one jackass brought 3 when the rule was one per customer...but if the said jackass tried to return them after not being able to sell them on eBay or something, I'll flat-out tell him to fuck off
bUt back to the election here in VA ! I went around 7:30, and had no issues at my usual voting location. They did change the route where everybody had to walk by the different candidate campaign workers...since I live in a very blue part of Hampton Roads (small, but we have a shipyard, hint), that didn't bother me. False News was trying to make this a close race, but based on the large number of people who also voted throughout the day, I wasn't surprised to see Northam win !
