1. Yep--I remember being led down the hall to the book room.

The wooden paddle with holes drilled in it hung from the wall.
I was instructed to grab my ankles and my teacher paddled my ass.
It hurt. When I walked back into the classroom, the other kids looked
at me with a new respect. No tears. This was Abilene, Texas in the early 60's.

...and I remember in 3rd grade a 'bad boy' was put in a glass book case as punishment....I barely remember it.....just remember seeing the boy in that case.

4. Our Jr. High shop teacher

always began his first week making that year's paddle - a fine piece of art!

Paddling was still in vogue when I started teaching and I will admit to administering a couple in my first few years. I came to realize that violence on others was not an effective or correct means of learning.
As a principal I refused to paddle, even after some parental requests (yes, they wanted me to paddle their own kids!).

My own Father used his pants belt on me, as well as having me hold a teaspoon of pepper in my mouth a few times (I know, I shouldn't have "used those words!&quot . However, I never did any of those things to my own 2 children and am not nor plan to be a mass killer.

And teachers did it too. My parents hit us, and my friends' parents did the same, so I never found it out of the ordinary until I grew up. . .

9. In my elementary school

the 3rd Grade teacher did the corporal punishment. Swats with a wooden chalkboard compass about 2 ft long. In front of the class. It was of course the added humiliation for the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders to be seen crying in front of smaller children.

One day, somebody in authority figured it out. The teacher was a sadist who enjoyed hurting kids.

Suddenly the fucker was gone! Replaced by this lovely, sweet young woman, who was a great teacher.

10. I never got a spanking at school but my stepbrother did

That was in the 80s Springfield MO. The principal and the male 6th grade teacher did the spanking.
