'That's how people like you get shot': Georgia teacher suspended for allegedly threatening student

http://abcnews.go.com/US/people-shot-georgia-teacher-suspended-allegedly-threatening-student/story?id=50993443
<snip>
A public school teacher in Georgia has been placed on administrative leave after allegedly threatening a student late last month, officials said.

A video taken from the classroom of the Rockdale Career Academy in Conyers shows the teacher telling the student not to "screw" with him, or he will "get in big-a-- trouble."

"Don't smile at me, man, OK? That's how people like you get shot," the teacher, who is white, told the student, who is black. "I got a bet. I bet by the time you're 21, somebody's gonna put a bullet right through your head. And it might be me -- the one that does it."

Students in the classroom are heard expressing shock at the teacher's statements.

The mother of the student that the teacher was allegedly speaking to posted the video to Facebook on Friday, saying that she was "outraged" that the incident occurred.

.I was teaching in a difficult school. This was a study hall I was supervising..maybe 15 students..probably less. So one of the very quiet young men, was fooling around with something on his desk. I walked over, and he was playing with a bullet. Also, he was kind of half asleep with his head on the desk fooling with it..So, I asked him in as nice a way possible, if he could please put that thing away, not a good thing to fool around with in school.

And that is exactly what he did, he put it away, and he kinda went to sleep for the rest of the 40 minute period. Well, in the next class, the teacher didn't handle it too well, so I heard the other teacher started yelling at the young man...say 16 years old..So............the young man took out the gun, no I didn't know that, and put the bullet in the gun and started pointing it around..They called security and took him away. He did not fire the gun, but I didn't know he had a gun. It was about 35 years ago..you don't forget something like that

I had a student who would show up for lectures in a suit jacket. I knew he was a cop. I suspected he was violating the rules which state he should leave his weapon at the police station on campus. I spoke with the Faculty Dean since I was not having a gun in my lecture room. I called him aside after the third lecture and told him he needed to speak with the Dean to sort out his problem.

I was working an a very old building with lots of empty rooms. So they asked the teacher to stay a little after they were supposed to leave,,and inspect some of the empty rooms, to see if any of the kids were hiding in a corner of an empty room, or an empty remote stairwell smoking dope. ok...So I go into this large room with maybe a hundred desks. It was being used as a study hall, but..late in the day it was known to be empty.
On the side of the room was a teachers desk..

So I go into the room looking for the pot smokers and on that side desk a female student in lying on her back, and a male student has his hand in her pants, obviously playing with her vagina. So, I walk up to them, and as I do, he pulls his hand out of her pants and well, they both look "embarrassed". So, what do I do??
Obviously, this wasn't exactly "legal" but also, it was obviously it was something both wanted to do. ..
...Here is what I did. Instead of reporting them and getting them into all kinds of trouble. I told the two to get out of that room, and go home. And that is what they did. I had not seen either of them before, and did not know them. But...........the next school year, the young man was in my history class. You had better believe that I remembered him...
....Guess what?...that fellow did not cause one discipline problem for the entire 10 months he was in my class, he was perfectly respectful, and also..guess what? I never mentioned seeing him the year before..but he knew damn well who I was, and I knew who he was..

Such unprofessional comments and threats have no place anywhere and they are especially egregious coming from a teacher to a student. This teacher is too immature (and bigoted) to be in charge of a classroom. The teacher should be suspended or fired.
