Northam Victory Speech Disrupted by Apparent Protesters

Virginia Gov.-elect Ralph Northam was rushed off stage by a security official at the start of his victory speech Tuesday night.

Three protesters were seen heckling Northam and holding homemade signs, including one Northam sign with the word "sanctuary" written across it. The protesters appeared to be escorted out of the victory party.

Northam said last week he would sign a ban on sanctuary cities as governor after Republican opponent Ed Gillespie campaigned on threats of MS-13 gang violence. Northam had previously voted against such a ban.

Northam returned promptly to the podium to speak and did not address the disruption.

It's a response not just to troubled times but to modern communications AND to insidious influences by unscrupulous manipulators.

It used to be that social groups tended to have a balancing effect. These days, though, we can all find whole groups who agree with us. No brakes. "We're right, and they're corrupt." It's a bad thing for all of us, but those groups inclined to radicalism reinforce that tendency in their members and both members and groups become more and more extreme in their thinking.

I was shocked when someone I've always liked and considered sensible, emotional for whatever reason after today's Democratic Party wins, said, "moderate = someone's rights are being trampled. I WILL ALWAYS SPEAK OUT." Apparently somewhere that's seen as a principled belief that requires destruction of moderation in politics.

I wish these people would spend 10 seconds wondering how representative government could last 10 seconds if everyone felt that way.

8. We have an "if you're not with us, you're against us" mentality within our own party.

It's an isolating experience, as if one doesn't fully belong to any group or ideology.

no matter how strong, and moderate conservatives in the party don't. This is a radical-left thing.

There's a huge difference between those who believe in democracy, which cannot exist without cooperation and compromise, and the rigidly righteous leftists who talk themselves into this kind of profound, ruthless contempt for all differing viewpoints.

Fortunately, the genuine Our-Way-Or-The-Torch people are a small minority. They very foolishly believe all the pumping up of them by the media because it sells newspapers, but they'd do better to look around and see how others are taking their acting out.

That familiarity-breeds-contempt thing. They never do, though, and always take themselves down.

Pretty embarrassing for them, imo. Perhaps do a little research next time.

another's, Progressive, agenda? I've been trying to understand the roles of opposing factions in our party for a long time. Hoping for some insight. I think that individuals within the party who are climbing the political ladder seem to be about their personal aspirations sometimes. They want to set the tone and be credited for it. I've seen this on a local level and wonder if the trend continues on up.

Sanctuary cities (of which there are none in Virginia) are cities where the local police force does not pester residents about immigration or residency status.

The GOP is pretending that Sanctuary City means that law enforcement won't arrest or process warrants for criminals accused of actual crimes because they are in a Sanctuary City.

If a warrant came out for someone accused of assault in a Sanctuary City, that person would still be sought out by local law enforcement and arrested.

Sanctuary cities only provide a respite for people who have overstayed work or tourist visas or who snuck into the country, as long as they are law abiding.

This "outrage" is a mental exercise attempting to damage Northam with the Latino community. In reality Northam enjoyed a lot of support from Latinos. Contrast with Gillespie who treated Latinos like murderous animals.
