If you support that piece of shit Roy Moore, if you still support Donald Fucking Trump, after all the allegations of sexual assault and harassment, you don't ever get to lecture me about family values ever again. Sexual assault and harassment creates a lot of victims and it is the opposite of family values. If you support these monsters, your values are worthless.
That is all. And fuck you.

(988 posts)I dont think you can use Christianity in general. Scumbags like Moore try to hide behind religion.
Its the individual that has done the shameful deeds and not the religion.

So, yeah, it's safe to say "Christianity" when talking about the GOP.

(4,033 posts)Even if we accept your initial statement that 'just under half of the US is conservative Christian' then you following assertion that it leaves 'about 10% for everything else' leaves at least 40+% unaccounted for.
Actually, most numbers I've seen say that about 50% of the US identifies itself as Protestant, that encompasses all Protestant denominations, the largest of which is Baptist. About 25% identify as Catholic.
My father started out as a Baptist minister. He served in WWII as a 1AO - military non-combatant. He trained as a medic. He taught love, acceptance, and the like.
Most 'Evangelicals' I have come in contact with don't seem to have ever read the New Testament. So, since they don't seem to accept the actual teachings of Jesus then it is hard to accept them as 'Christian'. Hence, CHINOs.

(6,017 posts)My numbers were slightly off in fairly random directions.
Evangelicals 26%
Catholics 24%
And yes, Catholics = conservative Christians, esp from the POV of the half the population who are women, and/or LGBT. Oh, and in healthcare (think: the 1-in-6 hospital beds owned by the Church where medical decisions are made on religious dogma rather than science).
About the only topic where the Church in America can be considered "liberal" is (Mexican) immigration, but that's largely because Mexico is 98% Catholic.
Even their treatment of the "poor" is suspect as they run their shelters at a profit, will shut them down rather than comply with anti-discrimination laws, and their hospitals provide substantially less charitable care than average.
