Morning Joe, hosted by Nicole Wallace this morning. The moral clarity today was refreshing.
"The GOP has clawed 'this way to the bottom now. We have become the party of Donald Trump and Roy Moore."
"Your party now seems to be divided on the issue of pedophilia..the standard bearer of the party in Alabama."
The question "Do you believe these women? The question is slightly different. Are you calling these women liars? When a woman does come forward, almost that in and of itself, it's not an allegation, because of what they are putting on the line."
As a person and as a family. She has no reason to want to put herself out there
To come forward and tell her story... There is no glory for a woman.. it is reliving the most humiliating, the most debasing days or hours of a woman's life to put this story, attached to her name... the risk they we're taking to their own reputations, the risk they were taking that they wouldn't be believed. To re-traumatize the women is to say "if true". Or "if this costs him the election". Yes it's true, because no woman lies about being sexually molested as a 14 year old.
These are not movie stars. They live in small towns and they are going to see people at the grocery stores.. especially in a place like Alabama. And not to take anything away from the actresses who have come forward, they are brave and our heroes, but Gwyneth Paltrow has a Oscar and a job and a career and a whole lot of. Wealth. It's harder when you have nothing to gain and everything to lose.
To see people on tv saying "if true". Or even worse "it happened a long time ago."
"The fake news toxins have seeped out from the white House into the whole party where you have Roy Moore saying here's a woman accusing me of pedophilia it's fake news. Is this not the most pernicious way in which the 'fake news' (meme) is going to infect our politic and make it morally repulsive?"
And Mike Barnacle: "Out there in the country. When I was growing up the level of what was acceptable was up here... by age 25 it was here... and now it's down here, now it's Roy Moore and 'do you believe the women?'. It's about our culture."
The level of acceptability is dropping.. now we are at a point of "is it true?"
Faux pas
(14,681 posts)only one woman makes an accusation, that's he-said-she-said. If more than one woman makes an accusation, IT IS TRUE, and that should be that.

(16,184 posts)Is a very heavy indictment, because they have to face the embarrassment and personal attacks and frankly, even threats to themselves and their family.
Nicole Wallace just flat out said, it IS true.
She has a strong sense of compassion and sensitivity.
