Random thoughts on a slow Monday, today it's religion in action American style

I have not been a Christian since I was about 17, but I still remember all those years of classes and summer schools. Actually it seems to me I remember those lessons better than people paid to talk about them.

When Jesus was reputedly walking around Judea, there was homosexual activity going on.

At that time in history there were rather common ways to terminate pregnancies as well.

But he never mentioned those things. Never once brought up either subject.

What did he speak of instead? Well...

He hated divorce, and spoke against the practice often.

He railed against those who would pray in public and proclaim their piety in showy ways.

He warned against the temptation to amass wealth at expense of the poor and powerless.

He preached that welcoming strangers and helping the miserable were acts of faith.

And he stated that there was a new covenant with God, ending most the proscriptions and requirements of the Old Testament.

So what the hell do these right wing people who claim Christianity for themselves actually follow?

The whole of their religion seems to revolve around Abortion and Gay Sex. As the old joke goes, they are against 'em. Meanwhile...

They'll quote Leviticus while eating bacon wrapped shrimp and cheeseburgers.
They'll tattoo their second wife's name on their arm and show it to people at the National Prayer Breakfast - Which is held in a massive 4000 seat Acme Crystal Palace Of Worship, which I imagine has several ATM machines in the Apse for your tithing convenience.

Oh yeah, they hate the strangers in our midst and truly hate the idea that charity should be extended to anyone not like themselves.

So, I am completely unsurprised that today these people are looking for ways to absolve a pedophile. Because he hates the same people they do, and that's good enough.

Modern Christianity is a death cult. The ones who proudly vote for this shit no more have their heads screwed on tighter than any member of Manson's crew. Except now they don't mask their words and actions, they wear it on a T-shirt and misspell it on their pickup truck back window.

I too was raised a Christian but am no longer a believer. I remember those lessons too. Didn't Jesus also vandalize the workstations of the money changers inside a temple? Nowadays I speculate that when the ushers came with the offering plates, Jesus might knock the plates onto the floor. He also said it was easier for a camel to fit through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven. I always took that to mean rich people can't go to heaven.
