(6,137 posts)Alt right is at war with CNN because the network tries to appear neutral. They are ok with msnbc that they consider left. This was explained by one of breitbarts editors on masnbc and why they boycott cnn. It is inconvinient in their quest to draw division. Aso, Trump only goes harsh against those who speak the truth (gaslighting). CNN might be the most trustowrthy news organization today.

Putin Just Signed A Dangerous Law That Explains Why Trump Attacked CNN International Today
BY PETER MELLADO
PUBLISHED ON NOVEMBER 26, 2017
On the same day that President Trump attacked CNNs international news arm, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin announced sweeping changes to his own countrys laws that govern foreign news agencies doing business in Russia.
Trump tweeted Saturday evening that, Fox News is MUCH more important in the United States than CNN, but outside of the U.S., CNN International is still a major source of (Fake) news, and they represent our Nation to the WORLD very poorly. The outside world does not see the truth from them for their role as the worlds window.
Earlier Saturday, meanwhile, news broke that indicated Russia may be preparing to go after American news agencies as well. According to CNN, Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed amendments into law that will allow foreign media outlets in Russia to be listed as foreign agents.' CNN sourced Russian digital news outlet Sputnik News for their report.

(6,395 posts)1. CNN has always painted and delivered itself as "middle of the road" and has always been credible. It's never given them the ratings they wanted, but, its often a tough argument to dismiss them as partisan. So for them to go on the attack, says a shit load.
2. CNN is often included on every basic cable, satellite and subscription streaming service. They have access to more viewers, which makes Joe and Jane Public more aware. Fox news requiring more money and thus required to be on a more expensive package, actually works against them. Go figure......

(6,395 posts)I live in a "liberal" state so, Fox is extra money. I also travel a bit, but every hotel, timeshare, etc. I've stayed in has CNN... Fox and MSNBC.... not so much.
So on one hand, I have to ask, is this regional? I've traveled extensively through the red states of Arizona, Utah, Montana, Idaho and Wyoming and Fox News was only an option occasionally. I've also traveled a lot through Nevada, Oregon and Washington, but I'll exclude them.
Then again, I usually don't stay at Motel 6. If its work travel, its a bit more "ritz". And if on vacation, just passing by in a small town for one night, I opt for Super 8 or Days Inn.
Or, maybe I just didn't notice it since I don't consider it as a news channel! LOL!

(6,395 posts)But the three states that border the Pacific, Faux is obviously a non-starter. And yes there are red states that border or close to them....but they also depend heavily on tourist dollars from the blue states, so they have to keep them happy...and they don't have a sizeable population to influence elections. Hence why if want Faux or MSNBC, I have to shell out an additional 5 bucks a month... CNN comes standard, and I'm content with it.

Just guessing. We shall see shortly.

They can be dismissed by default. The threat comes from when someone might see CNN (the more 'neutral' network) as rational and start to peel away from the nuttery.

(30,741 posts)They do have smart liberal people like Rachel Maddow. But they try to provide "balance" with some conservative types.
MSNBC is not afraid to criticize 45. It is one of the few places you will see that.
I do not like the MSM. I think they are one of the big reasons we have an orange madman as president. My bias certainly shows through in this post. At the very least, I like MSNBC, but I am still critical of them.

(101,320 posts)plus CNN will have 'floating voter' viewers, who might be made less likely to vote for Democrats if the channel can be subverted, destroyed or decimated. MSNBC viewers are probably more reliable Dem votes anyway.
In this kind of situation, I think he's being guided by Bannon and Cambridge Analytica. I think it's not just Trump's own ego driving this, but a carefully judged attack to help far right Republicans. Expect Russian troll activity to support it.

(5,269 posts)NBC has broken a couple of stories in recent weeks, but most of breaking stories damaging to Trump over past year first exposed on TV (vs. print media) have been coming from CNN this past year. MSNBC usually just follows CNN leads rather than being the outlet to actually break the news stories.
