He also had an episode of heart pain in the middle of the night about 6 weeks ago. FINALLY, he has made an appt. with a neurologist to get an MRI and MRA.

(13,360 posts)My mom had a TIA last October and it was really obvious, she could barely speak.lost her words...It hit her left temporal/frontal lobes where language lives.
BUT! with the blood thinners and working on her own to re-program her brain through art and reading and even talking on the phone to friends...she is fully recovered! Her handwriting is still wonky, and sometimes she stalls in conversation, searching for a word...but at 80, she is still hitting the gym 3x a week!
Hope your hubby is soon to be on the mend.

(36,926 posts)His vision blurred, he felt dizzy and almost fell. Fortunately had something to hold onto. The first time we thought it might be a fluke, but not 2 times. Docs are concerned.

(70,112 posts)the t is for transient, meaning the effects are not lasting.
i had one years ago. i thought i was talking, but was making no sense. my face was tingling. when i got to the er, the signs made no sense to me. i knew they were letters, but they didnt seem to be words. the whole thing was over in about a half an hour.
anything that leaves enough damage to need therapy isnt a tia.

(32,861 posts)Last Nov 30. We are very lucky he is with us. He had to be intubated and was in the hospital for 21 days and then a rehab facility for 4 months. He couldnt even sit up alone in the beginning. He can walk now and do many things. He was a very high functioning man and will likely never ever get back to that He is 58. The reason Im telling you this is cardiovascular events are NOTHING TO IGNORE. Please seek medical treatment immediately.

My dad is 84...and yes, one year after my mom's TIA my dad had one in October this year. He's still not the same and the docs said it looked like buckshot hit his brain. They decided to do a stent was too risky. He's still got most of his functions, but has slowed down considerably
