If we don't manage to get power back from the people who've turned the GOP into the Banana Republican Party, it will be followed by much worse. Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Unemployment Insurance, environmental regulations, civil rights laws, much of our judicial system, labor regulations, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc., are all lined up by the chopping block.

Our governmental institutions are only being dismantled from the inside right now because they lack the power -- so far -- to simply legislate them out of existence.

Conservative billionaires are already fighting hard to not just keep but grow power in 2018 and 2020. They have no intention of losing.

...most Americans realize what the hideous thing is going to do to them.

AND it will permanently cut Medicare / Soc Security by BILLIONS.

Just. NO.

on purpose. I want what wise liberal economists, public policy and political strategists, who are determined to not just save but restore and advance our republic, want. If necessary, we should be prepared to sacrifice 2 years of no insurance for children now for 30 years of no insurance in future.

I remember a political scientist telling me once at a party that the 17 years that had elapsed at that point between the defeat of a national healthcare plan in the 1990s and the new one being developed under Obama fit neatly into a typical pattern that had been identified for the time it takes for these things to come around again. That was just the time needed for support for one very needed reform to rebuild to politically necessary levels.

The Republicans have let CHIPS lapse and over a million American citizens in Puerto Rico still have no power, economy collapsing, people who can forced to flee. They're working to dismantle the VA and turn healthcare for veterans into a profit industry--but only for vets with means. Consumer protections are being dismantled. The justice and treasury departments are being used as tools to facilitate corruption and injustice. The unrelenting 75-year-old goal of repealing the New Deal and civil rights legislation, turning back the socioeconomic clock to the 1890s, is within sight.

Anyone who doesn't understand what these, and dozens of other atrocities, auger far beyond just themselves really needs to be woken up.
