(22,037 posts)Do we know any of the accusations against him yet? Your judgment and penalties seem a bit premature.
Still, NBC fired his sorry ass. His career is finished just like Charlie Rose's and Bill O'Reilly's, to name but two other miscreants.

(12,882 posts)All these turds will do fine if they only want to lounge around each and every day. Another facet of this currently crashing wave is to try and imagine the labor shortage at every strata of employment if all the men who've done such deeds were fired in a short period of time! Having been in the military and having spent 30-some years wearing a "Blue Collar", I've been witness to phenomenon more than I could ever hope to remember. There would be an honest labor emergency throughout all industry.

(1,379 posts)I get the nonstated assumption that its ok for us to believe his accuser (even though so far she is anonymous) because we hate Matts assumed political leanings.
Maybe Im misreading this, but to me thats BullCrap!
If it was Dan Rather, you know damn well we wouldnt have twelve threads on how it couldnt happen to a more deserving person.
Once again, these threads prove to me the hypocrisy of all charges.

(26,330 posts)And if Rather were accused and it was found credible enough for the Network to fire their star, I'm pretty sure people here would be perfectly ok with Rather being fired.
Disappointed but ok with it.
So what's your point?

(1,379 posts)The accused is someone we dont like, so lets pile on, but when its Franken, an anonymous accuser isnt believable.
When its Someone we dont like there are dozens of threads about how rotten the guy is, but when its Conyers you are hard pressed to find even one thread in breaking news.
I think the hypocrisy stinks, and I will call it out. I just used Rather as an example, and perhaps it was a poor one, so for that I apologize. Maybe I should have used Keith Olbermann, who many have said is miserable to work with., yet most here like.
I dont like Matt Lauer, and I do believe the story, but I also believe the Conyers story, and even though its nowhere near the same plane of yuckyness, I also believe the Franken stories.

(14,532 posts)there have been threads about lauer being an asshat long before today. Just that today he was fired for being an asshat. It was not publically known that Conyers had a problem keeping his hands to himself. He resigned his committee and is not running for re-election. You are new here and the breaking news forum is for just that. No news stories after x amount of hours they have been published and NO DUPES. So yeah, you would be hard pressed to find more than 1 post about Conyers in there.

(14,532 posts)There must be some pretty good evidence if they fired him this quickly. No sudden "vacation" while they investigate. Fired within 48 hours.

(4,575 posts)They must feel that this is the least costly route to go. I'm intrigued about what we're going to find out about Matt Lauer in the coming days and weeks.
gratuitous
(82,849 posts)In fact, at this point, we don't know the substance of the accusation against Lauer, who made it, or anything else. What we know is that NBC fired its most prominent employee based on it. I don't think NBC management or legal team are complete dunces, and they made what they believe to be a good business decision. They get paid a lot of money to make good business decisions. For now, I'll go along with NBC's judgment.

(37,748 posts)Many people see proofs in simplistic and unsupported inferences of other people's biases. You've predicated your entire sentiment on "maybe Im misreading this..."
It's a logical fallacy to do so.
