The Republicans of Broward County, Fla., knew little about Rupert Tarsey when he ran for an open slot on the local partys executive committee. But the young man had some decent political cred.
Before the 2016 presidential election, he told them, he knocked on thousands of doors and got 50 Republicans in the liberal enclave to register to vote to support Donald Trumps presidential campaign. He worshiped at the same church as the committees vice chair and headed a local chapter of the Catholic fraternal group Knights of Columbus. He came from a wealthy California family and followed four generations into a real estate career.
Within months of joining the local party, the 28-year-old was elected secretary in May, defeating two challengers whod been around longer.
But something felt off about Tarsey for Bob Sutton, chairman of the committee. After a few months, Tarsey went after Suttons position, members said, by working to persuade the committee to unseat him. Thats when Sutton started getting phone calls warning him that Tarsey was not quite who he seemed.

No self-respecting Republican, Democrat or independent would support an individual who took a claw hammer to a female.
That would go right out the window for the Republicans if control of Congress were in play.

(31,111 posts)I sincerely hope the Republicans in Broward County get rid of this asshole. He is a ticking time bomb.
It is absolutely shameful that he got off so easily but money talks and when it does people listen. This guys not fit to be in any kind of public office. Why doesn't he stay in his fucking mansion with the swimming pool and not bother anybody?
If he has all these " neurological problems" he doesn't need to be in any kind of office anyway.
Thanks for posting this. Sounds like both party should start running a background check on people that they don't know very well. They do that for a lot of low level jobs nowadays.

Then the "military" prep school he got sent to next to try to control his violent tendencies formally disciplined him for brutally hazing younger students.
