After decades Of conjecture I cant believe there arent at least 20 threads about this.
President Donald Trump suggested in a tweet this morning that frequent critic Joe Scarborough, the host of the MSNBC's Morning Joe, killed his intern in 2001.

So now that Matt Lauer is gone when will the Fake News practitioners at NBC be terminating the contract of Phil Griffin? And will they terminate low ratings Joe Scarborough based on the unsolved mystery that took place in Florida years ago? Investigate!

When Scarborough was a Republican Congressman for Florida, his intern, Lori Klausutis, was found dead in his Florida district office. There is no proof that Scarborough had anything to do with it.

Hmmm. Could this morning's nastiness, hard-right Islam hate, etcetera, be because he was told in no uncertain terms last night that major military action was out of the question?

(35,454 posts)I was shocked by the tweet. For ever so long, well to this day, people have been bringing up the Joe/dead intern story and nothing. Suddenly, the delusional one does. How did he know and are they looking for a huge distraction?

(115,706 posts)It's one thing to snark on a message board; it's something else for a president to make an accusation like that. And you know damn well Orange Foolius doesn't believe for a minute that Scarborough actually murdered his intern (and neither do most of the snarkers, really); he's just trying to get even with Scarborough in his inimitably juvenile way for criticizing him.

(115,706 posts)as bullshitting by the president of the United States. Nobody gives a crap about wild-ass comments on DU. People do give a crap about what the president says, although in the case of this president they probably shouldn't. Nobody on DU (as far as I know) was accusing Scarborough with the actual intent to cause him harm because we all know that bullshitting on an internet message board is basically just masturbation - we do it for our own pleasure (just as we're doing right now) but it doesn't have any effect in the real world. What Dolt 45 says matters, even if it shouldn't. And that's the difference.

(4,533 posts)Those here Arent in a position to do any real harm, they dont have any obligation to pin down the facts. We just talk casually among ourselves. We arent in position to harm someone from incomplete research, from less than perfect reasoning.
But Trump absolutely harms people. Millions will now think Scarborough is a murderer.
I agree with Dershowitz that we should be extremely reluctant to use criminal laws to fight political battles but Scarborough should have the right to be compensated for vile slander. Trump is close to the line. He should suffer for making vile false charges.
