Question re: the House and Senate investigations

IF we can take both the House and the Senate in 2018, will these investigations have to be restarted to gear up for impeachment? Especially since the GOP has been obstructing through smokescreens and inactivity as much as possible?

I doubt they would have the guts to do it, even if they could get the needed 2/3 Senate vote to convict.

They let Iran Contra go.
They let Bush and Cheney's War Crimes go.

Why would Trump be any different?
