Geraldo defends Matt Lauer: 'News is a flirty business'

BY AVERY ANAPOL - 11/29/17 04:19 PM EST

Geraldo Rivera came to Matt Lauer’s defense Wednesday after the longtime “Today” host was fired from the network over sexual harassment complaints.

Rivera, a Fox News contributor and former talk show host, wrote that "news is a flirty business," and that the current wave of sexual harassment allegations risk "criminalizing courtship."

Rivera’s tweet also references Garrison Keillor, who was fired from Minnesota Public Radio Wednesday over reports of inappropriate behavior.

Rivera has defended men accused of sexual harassment before, including the former CEO and chairman of Fox News, who was forced out amid multiple accusations of misconduct.

Oh Geraldo. How we misunderstood completely. These were instances of courtship Tell us, was there a dowry involved? Any engagements or marriages follow these acts of harassment, ahem, "flirty" gestures?

what Lauer doing was in no way "flirting" and he deserved to be fired if even some of it is true.

Getting a little too close for comfort, Geraldo? And while you’re educating us, explain what you mean by “courtship? “
