It Started as a Tax Cut. Now It Could Change American Life.

By Peter S. Goodman and Patricia Cohen at the N.Y. Times

"SNIP.......

Some measures are barely connected to the realm of taxation, such as the lifting of a 1954 ban on political activism by churches and the conferring of a new legal right for fetuses in the House bill — both on the wish list of the evangelical right.

With a potentially far-reaching dimension, elements in both the House and Senate bills could constrain the ability of states and local governments to levy their own taxes, pressuring them to limit spending on health care, education, public transportation and social services. In their longstanding battle to shrink government, Republicans have found in the tax bill a vehicle to broaden the fight beyond Washington.

The result is a behemoth piece of legislation that could widen American economic inequality while diminishing the power of local communities to marshal relief for vulnerable people — especially in high-tax states like California and New York, which, not coincidentally, tend to vote Democratic.

All of this is taking shape at such extraordinary velocity, absent the usual analyses and hearings, that even the most savvy Washington lobbyist cannot be fully certain of the implications.

The MSM does a bad job when it comes to reporting on "boring" stuff like local government policy. But these issues are HUGE especially for the most vulnerable people in the population. Also, a lot of people just don't care because the issues don't press any hot buttons.

The Republicans have been getting away with so much at the state level because of this tendency and it looks like something similar may happen nationally.

Ten thousand times, THIS! The move into a theocratic state will destroy personal liberty in this country, imho.

Thank you for posting.

Both Senators Collins and Murkowski. are now voting YES, having been promised the moon by Trump or McConnell which we all know will never be kept.

We need to work harder. More pressure on McCain, Flake and a couple of other undecideds. Country over party!

He's an opposite of Reagan. They used him to rail about fake U.S.A. pride; they use Trump when he looks ridiculous and hateful.
Sleight of hand.
It works for the GOP: a band of soulless, hate-filled, money-sucking bastards.

We are proud, loud and strong and we will not allow them to take our country away from us!

Who have you called or written in the Senate and how did
it go? I get a lot of busy signals, "leave a message", mailbox full and sometimes an actual person. This is a good sign for us. Keep doing the good work...karma will come around.

Here is a list of who to call, how to get addresses, phone numbers, a nd a link about the Tax Scam. There are scripts to read when you call as well as a list of protest events in your home zip code, and a lot of of other useful info. THANKS! Resist!
Here is my list to call and share with others as well as
A great link...RESIST! Peace.
Call all of them. All the numbers start with (202)224-****
Corker (TN) 3344
McCain (AZ) 2235
Flake (AZ) 4535
Collins ( ME)2523
Heller (NV)6244
Murkowski (AK)6665
Moran (KS)6521
Johnson(WI)5323
Young (IN)5623

Call them all. If you go to Zillow for the individual STATE you can get a local address and zip to use in case the senator's phone staffer needs validation that you are a voting constituent. It works and they NEVER check. I have done it with over 400 calls in the past year. It literally takes two minutes to Google Zillow. Your phone area code doesn't matter due to cell phones. Tell them a personal story. Also, here is a useful link to share...
