if they take away the SS and Medicare we have been paying for all of our lives...no choice?

(86,636 posts)I think that if they take away SS, they should lose all their benefits as well. All perks, insurance and annual income from treasury when they leave office. And no beneficiaries either.

(54,770 posts)That way, we supposedly wouldn't really have grounds for saying they took something away from you. I do understand that it feels like that though.
If they were to make a radical change to the SS benefits (or age) that applies to everyone, they'll use the excuse that the program will be in the red in a few years unless these changes are made.
Unfortunately, the program has been used as a political football since inception. Even current retirees aren't totally immune from big changes.
