I fear my heart is going to explode. My Senator, Al Franken, is going to be railroaded out of office, my well being is being tossed aside for the amusement of the wealthy, and my sanity is being toyed with by the FAWKING assholes running my country!!! Im not going to make it.

They are the greatest threat this country has ever faced.
They won't stop until the U.S. is a Christian Theocracy run by global corporations.

(30,481 posts)Franken will be fine, in or out of office. Chances are better than not he will have an amazing rest to his life. Like all of us he will suffer pain along the way. Some unjust. Minnesota will also be fine. Far too often we live in the moment when the game we are playing is long.
Dig deep. Do some extreme self-reflection. Get off the 24 hour bullshit news for just a short time. Stabilize. Stabilize. Stabilize. I, along with millions of others, desperately need a healthy and energetic you. It starts and ends with you.
Please my friend, please.

(30,741 posts)Sober or otherwise, I do not think Franken will resign. I believe he will be vindicated. Something will happen to take the spotlight off Franken.
He is a fighter. And Minnesotans are stubborn and tough. All those Swedes and Germans will not put up with this crap. They will dig in, quietly, but they will dig in.
If he was up for reelection right now, I have little doubt that he would win.

(115,716 posts)I am becoming more convinced that, while the USO show had its bawdy moments and he participated in them, most of this is a setup by Roger Stone or his ilk. The timing, especially Al's takedown of Jeff Sessions, the anonymity of the latest accusers and the involvement of the others with the GOP makes the whole thing smell pretty bad. But I don't think Franken will be driven out of office, although Conyers might be.
The rest of it, though - yeah, it sucks - hard enough to bend light. I keep trying to remind myself that the way power is taken from you is by convincing you that you don't have any. But right now I think we are all feeling pretty helpless because the GOP is hell-bent on fucking us over just because they can. Their donors have ordered them to cut taxes on them, or no more rides on the gravy train. The rest of us are just collateral damage. And if the donors open their wallets again, the fact that the bill is resoundingly unpopular won't matter.
In the meantime, the president is obviously barking mad and ready to start a nuclear war - but the GOP doesn't care because they want those tax cuts.

(49,002 posts)Maintain calm awareness.
Be poised to shift stance quickly.
Don't fight fears or worries. Whenever fears and worries rush in to overwhelm you, just say to yourself "Oh, hi. You again." Then mentally in your mind open a window and let a breeze waft them away. Direct yourself to something that needs to be done, not as a distraction, but as a way to maintain progress forward.
We will survive. We will persist and persevere.

All of us are the descendants of men and women who faced wars, depressions, discrimination, homelessness and much more. They endured, survived and overcame. We have it in us to do the same.
Our enemy have nothing to sustain them but greed, fear and hate. We're better than that, much better. We have faith in ourselves, each other and this nation's ideals. We are going to kick their collective ass.
So take a deep breath, a break and step back up when you're ready.

(36,058 posts)The next time you're confronted by any Minnesotan with doubts, remind them of what TygerBright said here recently:
Al Franken did not, in any context, seek to
-- sexually assault a 14 year old girl.
-- induce nine women who didn't know each other to come forward with essentially the same story about preying on women FAR too young for the preyer.
-- brag about grabbing women by their pussies.
-- walk into the dressing room of a teenage beauty contest and ogle girls and very young women.
-- speak about his own daughter in the most disgusting ways not just once, but on multiple occasions, in multiple venues, and in highly public settings.
-- ignore the allegations of more than a dozen women who did not know each other yet made very similar allegations of groping, hands up skirts, vagina touching, and more.
-- refute what is increasingly being shown to be spurious charges at best, if not outright lies.
-- even breathe a HINT of a negative statement against his questionable accuser.
-- deflect the focus on him by publicly dissing others accused of similar actions
On the other hand, unlike Republican sexual predators, he did in the present context . . .
-- quickly acknowledge the accusations, even as the accuser has shown herself to have a political and personal agenda well beyond the allegations made.
--offer a public apology.
--deliver a hand written personal apology.
-- call for the Senate to do an ethics probe into the incident.
-- quietly withdraw from the controversy and allow the accuser to speak unrefuted.
Remember the contextual facts behind these women's claims. Stand with the those who admit human mistakes in understandable past contexts, rather than those who deny/deflect their actual factual sexual acts in any past context.
Anger is a genetic gift that helps us defend what's beautiful, good and true. Anger helps the good survive. Don't be afraid. You're going to be okay.

(2,566 posts)Something hit me today and I felt the same way. The tax bill seems to be my breaking point. It's filled with too many personal effects and dangers to those around me who are poor.
I looked up some recent Colbert segments, then distanced myself from my phone and laptop for about six hours and just lived an ordinary life. Grocery shopping, returning something to a store, ordering a birthday cake, and looking up to see a beautiful moon while an owl hooted--all of these things were restorative. Now I'm checking the headlines to see if any missles have been sent or received, if the tax bill has passed, and who else has been accused of sexual harrassment. After that, it's reading fun fiction tonight. Maybe some Scarlatti piano sonatas. He seems to cheer me up. No more intake of news after now.
I have to up my restorative activities and reduce my news intake or I will truly explode. A couple more indictments from Mr. Mueller would help, I must say!
Hang in there with us, a kennedy. Take care of yourself.

(21,106 posts)As allegations mounted against Franken, several fellow Democratic members of Congress said Thursday that he should resign. Rep. Joe Crowley of New York, the chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, and Rep. Tim Ryan of Ohio said separately that its time for Franken to go.
This is not NO ONE.
Besides there are other things in his post that are making many wring their hands in despair.
