WP update on "Thomas Fire" (Ventura CA)

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2017/12/05/out-of-control-southern-california-brush-fire-grows-from-50-to-25000-acres-in-7-hours/?utm_term=.9be5de2961a2

A brush fire raced through Southern California Monday night into Tuesday morning with ferocious speed, spreading from about 50 acres to an estimated 26,000 acres in less than seven hours. Named the Thomas Fire, it began in a canyon north of the city of Santa Paula, about 65 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles. It reached the northern edge of Ventura, a city with a population of more than 100,000, by 2 a.m. Pacific time.

One person was killed in a car crash while trying to evacuate from the fires, Ventura County Fire Chief Mark Lorenzen said in a news conference, according to CNN. The fire also destroyed two structures, though the nature of the structures could not be confirmed, Ventura County Fire Sgt. Eric Buschow told The Washington Post.

Authorities have given evacuation notices to “well over 30,000″ residents in the cities of Santa Paula and Ventura. More than 7,500 homes are under mandatory evacuation, authorities said in a statement posted early Tuesday morning, which described the fire as “out of control.”

representative from California voted to deny federal emergency funds to their fellow Californians affected by the fires in Sonoma County. A very at-risk California Republican, Steve Knight, may have constituents who are fire victims tonight. I’m not certain where the border of his district is. These heartless bastards.

FYI, I live in Thousand Oaks which is in Ventura County. When I have jury duty, that’s where I go. Weekend before last my brother and his family rented a beach house just north of downtown Ventura and we all went to Anacapa Brewing for dinner. This is very close, though not like Hekate.

Also, Patagonia, whose CEO, Chouinard, sued over Trump’s Bear’s Ears and Escalante land theft, is headquartered in downtown Ventura.

It's hard to comprehend the speed or destruction of this raging inferno.

This will continue until Thur with the Santa Ana winds from Mexico to Santa Barbara. We are being warned to keep a full tank of gas, cell phone car chargers ready, pet's meds, and not to drive a crappy car that can cause sparks, throw cigarettes out of windows, or even mow you lawn(sparks). This is very late in the season...odd.

11. Depends, varies on the area and the homeowners.

During the drought there were enforced restrictions on water, clearing dry brush around perimeters of single family homes, financial incentives to eliminate grass and replace it with desert plants/fake grass/succulents as ground cover, etc. Last winter we had 150% of average rainfall and new growth that has been dead for 8 months is now kindling. There are a lot of canyons too and that creates its own problems.
Maybe the fucking moron will come and throw boxes of matches at those who were evacuated.
