where this man fell down the stairs of an aircraft. I don't know what to make of it but it was vivid - he tripped and tumbled down. People were running everywhere. He wasn't clear but he looked real orange.

(17,444 posts)Since the "election," I have the recurring classic dream of no brakes. I'm driving a truck down the mountain and the brake pedal goes down to the floor boards as the truck hurtles down the hill. Then I wake up.
It would be so much better if there was an orange creature in the way. Thump ... thump. Let me be clear, I am taking about in a dream only!
There was a time when I had dreams of falling - I never reached the ground - I always woke up.

(86,647 posts)what I call "The Truck Driver Nightmare". I've had it many times during my driving career. It's always the trucks going down a mountain and either;
a) the brakes don't work
b) the grade is too steep
c) you're in the bunk while a. and/or b. are taking place
with a variety of circumstances attending the event.
Used to have one of those about three to six times a year.

(17,444 posts)carrying PA, stage decks, lighting gear and heavy feeder cables. I still do from time to time. None of them have air brakes. The Freightliner wasn't very good on the winding mountain roads. You had to stop as soon as the brakes started warming up, or you regretted it. It just got sold, good riddance.
There is still an '86 Isuzu that took Dave Matthew's gear to the early fraternity gigs. They got rich and this decrepit truck is still around because it's what we can afford. It just wants to keep going. All the synchros are on their last gasps and the plate that guides the stick is worn out. You've got to know where to put that stick or you are out of luck. I do fine with the old gal, so guess who gets tapped to drive when someone claims they can't get the hang of it?
In my dream I'm in the GMC box truck. In real life, this truck actually did pop a brake line on Afton mountain once. The automatic transmission wouldn't downshift as low as I wanted it. The hand brake worked but the shoes had to be replaced afterwards. That brake is a separate drum on the drive shaft. I hadn't thought about it before, but that was a life experience similar to this dream.
